Pirate ghosts... or ghost pirates ?
(anybody get the reference?)
About this creation
Yo,
Heh... in reference to my last MOC page; funny how everybody suddenly goes very quiet and avoids commenting when I mention needing a little help and maybe swapping or buying parts I'm in need of... ah well, never mind...
So anyway, here's a different one !
I love making spaceships and big cars, but it's nice to make other things for a change sometimes, too.
One reason I've made space and car related models is because that's the kind of stuff I have good parts for - but the last random mixed box of second hand lego we got hold of had a couple of pirate sets in it; and since pirates are cooler than ninjas, I decided to make a pirate model for a change.
The original idea was before anything to see if I could actually make a pirate ship - I had the front and back parts, ad someow managed to find just the perfect amount of normal bricks and plates in the right colours to make the middle section, too.
M idea was to do a Dan interpretation of 'space pirates', in a way that's probably not that original, and probably done before, by not turning a spaceship into a gritty pirate badass ship; but by turning a regular pirate ship into something a little more space-like, with aliens, blasters and jet engines.
However, I didn't have any concrete plan, and after making a pile of bits I thought would look cool on the ship (of which only about a tenth made it onto there - but only because the pile was so big I couldn't fit everything on the ship by a long shot), the parts looked more steampunk/normal pirate like.
As the building went on, I tried different things, and eventually what I ended up with had very little space-like bits, and half of them were more steampunk like in style. The rest just looked like ghost-pirates (or pirate-ghosts). So, behold the Steampunk Space Pirate Ghost ship !
Not a terrible amount to say in description - the photos say it all. I tried to make an interior, however small it was, that suited the style, with old bits, dark magic books, shiny keys, a pistol, plenty of golden goblets, treasure, a cannon in the middle of each side, and a semi-hidden cannon coming out of the stern. On the bow of the boat are a couple of harpoon cannons, a winch for the nearest thing I could find to an anchor, and an absolutely awesome kick-ass ram skull bow mascot. On top of the building are four mounted crossbows, a frontfacing cannon, a ramp going down to the inside of the boat. At the stern lies not much more than a balcony, with a wicked looking skeleton captain. On top of everything is a mast with a ladder on each side going not to a lookout bucket, but a small cockpit style lookout with nmounted crossbows, searchlights, and detachable binoculars. Above this of course is the flag, and behind (because I didn't have any sails) are some sort of something the boat supposedly uses for propulsion, maybe solar powered. Hey, it looked pretty cool compared to anything else I tried...

Here's the equation: Ghosts + Pirates = Pure Awesomeness. Remarkable and inspiring... I'm thinking of modifying a Hogwarts Express into Star Wars and this is an inspiration.
Thanks very much :)unds awesome ! Let me know when you make it, I'd love to see that done.

Pure randomness - I love it. The ghost controlling the cannon is hilarious. It is true that random creations like this don't usually get so much attention but they are great fun to build and that's what counts :). I have almost finished my car for your latest contest. I hope to post it this weekend. :)
Thanks :)
Looking forward to seeing your next car - if it's anything like the one you entered in the last contest, you'll have a fighting chance !
Things haven't quite gone to plan again... though this time it's in my favour, as I get to stay home just a little longer, and (unlike if things had gone to plan) I'll be here to change over the contests properly on the right day :)

Haha thats a groovy ship! Sounds like your mind was running wild with ideas. It is nice to build something other than Cars for a change. I noticed my homepage was overrun by cars so i'm not making another one until i've cleared it with some random fun stuff. Whats this you say about trading/buying pieces?
Haha it'll be cool to see what you come up with !
Even thoiugh my 'random' models never seem to get as much attention as the cars, it's completely different for me - no challenge or limits regarding accuracy, scale etc, just having fun and using your imagination - it's nice to build stuff like that every so often... even when you're 20 :)
That bit about swapping/buying parts - you'll see more of that on my second WIP page for the Tiger ( http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/282517 - it's now nearly complete - very little left). I was hoping some people in this community may want to swap parts, or otherwise sell me some of what I'm needing to finish a model... looks like whatever happens won't be ready yet though - even though I need so little, there's just no time left before I go back to uni; so I guess I'll just slowly try and get what's still missing over the next two or three months and hopefully finish the model during the christmas holidays.
