With working cam belt, rocker arms and radiator fan powered by the front wheels. Detailed interior including reclining seats, parcel shelf and spare wheel. Everything opens. It is based on a late 70s / early 80s mid range model (not a GTi) I might post a pimped up version for another contest . Inspiration for the engine was taken from R.H. (aka Senator Chincilla) and the detailed interior from De Tomaso Pantera - two of my favourite builders. Hope you like it :)

Quoting Nils O. That's a great Golf, with cool shaping and so many details. Great job on the interior and on the engine functions. But for me the best part is the body shaping, especially the C-pillar, the most important design element on a Golf Mk1. One minor detail is wrong: The part above the taillights belongs to the back door and should open with it. The rest is awesome! :-) By the way: The homologation on Naboo must have been expensive ;-)
Hahaha it took me a little while but I get it now. Yeah, the import tax was astronomical! ;) Thanks for the compliment. The struts are my favourite part too. You are completely correct about the boot (back door). It’s also a shame the roof line is a touch too high but I am very happy with it overall. Its going to be dismantled soon and turned into an Alan Mann Escort – Oh Yeah!

Quoting TiPi . Wait... is it just me, or do doors using those hinges not open well due to there incredibly wide width (In other words, mine don't open)?
Tipi - its not just your moc. They do open but you need to use a little force. I dont like this technique at all. These doors are only one stud wide by the way. I THINK you can use these hinges if you use them 'width ways' (not length ways) but the door only opens to 90 degrees. I usually leave a gap to the rear of the door, and fill it in with two plates (snot I suppose). You might be able to see what I mean if you look at my other larger cars. What car are you building?

I am not hiding a comment on you M.O. entry, no, I wouldn't dare to :-) Well, Maybe, but without knowing how to do it better, I think maybe the tail of the bird can take a bit stronger appereance (wider by one or maybe two?). the head of the bird can also take something more, but there I really don't know what to do.

The MKII was my first car. I think even this Lego one has more power then mine had. :-). I haven't said it already , but say now that the engine is very original. in my opinion Lego isn't Lego if there isn't any technical feature. Again very well done!

Quoting Nathanael Kuipers
hi Nathanael :). Thanks I always appreciate your comments. You are right, the front part of the roof could be a plate or two lower, but its one of those things - it would either be a tiny bit too high or too low. Glad you like the rest though.

@ Rhys - thanks man. Glad you like it, I am really pleased with those pillars they also support most of the roof structure - not as strong as my usual builds, but i prioritised looks over strength. The engine looks great when it spins, but I'm not very clever with making movies. Thanks for adding my as a fav, I added you a while back :).

For some profound reason, you weren't one of my favourite builders, so I missed this until now :O Anyway, I've rectified that situation now. Like Tom, this is my favourite Golf generation. The later ones look to big and bulky. My favourite part of the exterior has got the be the rear quarter panel. Those rear pillars are fantastic! The bucket seats look very comfortable and supportive, an innovative design. Overall, fabulous work! Well and truly worth 5/5 :)

Thanks everyone :). @ Ape - glad you like the studs:) Yes everything opens but I forgot to add the photo - doh! One of my favourites too. Agreed steering would be great, that's my only bugbear with working at this scale. @ Gabor - thanks, I am considering a few modifications to this moc but time is always an issue. One of my favourite cars added to MOCpages of 2011 - beautifully built, simple studs-up construction and a really nice interior. Maybe steering and opning doors would be nice, but nevertheless easily a 5 out 5. We had one of these when I was little - it was very old and my Dad got rid of it when my brother and I poked our fingers through the doors, such was the rust!

Super cool! The detail is amazing. Reminds me of my 1985 Jetta I had in college. Do you design using lego Digital designer, or do you mainly work with pieces you have? I find myself designing more and more on the laptop, then ordering the parts I am missing from bricklink. Glad you were able to get this posted

Awesome Mk1 Golf, this is my favourite Golf shape, all the rest are too heavy! Not sure i've seen one of these on Mocpages before. So many nice details like the seats and engine. Clever technic usage with the radiator fan (not seen that before on a non technic moc). I'm flatered to be one of your faves ;) thanks for the mention!
