The Countach has always been my favourite sports car. Since the Tiny Turbos came out I wanted to build it in 4-wide scale.
About this creation
So the Countach was my first 4-wide MOC based on a real model. I built in in LDD, starting with a 5 stud wheelbase (3 studs between the wheels) changing to a 6 stud wheel base later. I chose the first model, the LP400, because it has the smoothest design. It still came without all the "plastic" added later.
When I had built my first 4 models in LDD I wanted to have them in "real life", too. So I put them together in a set and ordered it at LEGO DESIGNbyME. I like the idea to get a real LEGO box with printed instructions for your own model :-). So these are the four cars from the set: The Countach, a Ferrari F40, a Ferrari Testarossa an an Audi TT. As in the LEGO Shop you only get the "normal" grey and white rims I ordered the models with the grey LEGO Racer rims.
And this is the Countach. I tried some different designs for the typical upper air intakes on the sides. Finally I chose the cheese wedge with an offset of 1 tile.
As the grey rims don't look really nice I had to pimp the model a bit when it arrived. I had some Tiny Turbo wheels left from a few RACER sets which I hade bought cheap at my local store.
The rear view is my fovourite one of this MOC, because here it gets quite close to the original.
Update November 1, 2011: I realized that the rear wing was first offered with the LP400S model, the first one with the fiberglass wheel arch extensions (although a lot of the owners mounted a wing on the LP400 later). So here is the LP400 without the rear wing:
Update December 3, 2011: I've built a yellow "twin" of this Countach in a bottle.
