I thought it would be worth sharing my explosive bullet design for all you handgun builders out there.
About this creation
Hi All,
I'm new to the forum but have been a Lego fan for the last 15 years. I have been designing a brick shooter handgun for some time now and always stumbled on having a big firing pin sticking out the back really far when the gun was cocked. Because real handguns have explosive bullets, only a small strike to the back of the bullet is required to fire. So that got me thinking: "how do I make an explosive bullet from Lego?" It was 3 days ago when the answer hit me!
Until I have a working model I won't submit my full handgun design, but I thought that it would be worth sharing the bullet design in case you wanted to try using it in your own mocs.
The way it works is the flexi system tube has a small length of pneumatic hose pushed over its end, forming a soft bullet tip. A pen spring (sorry all you Lego purists) is fitted over the back of the flexi system tube and the tube is pushed into the casing (1x1x1 cylinder brick with hole on top). When a small amount of pressure is applied to the flexi tube at the back of the casing, the spring pops the bullet out. Then you are left with a casing to eject just like a real hand gun. It's pretty powerful for such a small package (1x1x2H).
Things to note: There are different kinds of flexi system tube and I have found that the harder plastics are best for pinning the assembly together. Also, I found that a possible way to hold back the bullet and casing when firing is with a small tire (this probably won't make sense until you try building one).
So the discussion topics I wish to raise are: Have you ever designed an explosive Lego bullet or even a Lego brick shooter? Do you have any suggestions/recommendations for my design? Can you think of a way to stop the spring from flying out after the bullet? Do you have a handgun design that might be able to utilise this bullet? If so let me know and share your outcomes.
