6745 - Scout Mech (with building instructions)
My first 6745 alternative. No propellers but it still has some power. :)
About this creation
I guess my wife got bored with cars or red bricks because I received the 6745 Propeller Power set as a gift this week. :)

I liked the WWII plane but not the alternatives - wanted to build a few what I've seen from you though.

But a brick catched my attention before I could do that. This time it was the cockpit glass. It reminded me of a vehicle's cockpit which I used to drive in Mechwarrior II on PC decades ago. So I decided I'd try to create a Mech as an alternative of this set.

Here is how the cockpit layed out:

Then I focussed on the legs because I was not sure if they could be created from the parts included in this set. Here is the result after a fun-but-time-consuming-come-on-do-not-scatter-again design process (an image of a Vulture / Mad Cat was used as reference, because I like the birdish look of it):

The torso contains the engines, gives place for the equipment, it connects to the legs and holds the cockpit:

So let me present my Scout Mech called 'Chen': (The name was given by my wife. I'm not sure who is Chen, but I definetly do not want to meet him if he resembles to this mech.)

A closer look of the shoulders: the left one carries a Medium Machine Gun for extra fire power besides the Light Machine Gun below the cockpit. However the main function of this vehicle is not to destroy but to find the enemy so there is a container full of electronic scouting devices on the right shoulder, search lights on the top (sometimes the best you can do is use your eyes) and IR sensors below the torso.

Functionalities included: the torso can rotate and tilt, and the legs are working too. If you have enough hands (at least three of them, actually) you can walk this guy around your room, khm, war field nicely.

If you happen to drop it to the ground - as I did - you can watch the built-in explosion effect as well.

Enjoy!

Quoting Christian Jacobsen I was fixing colors in your LXF file, just to learn how to use the LDD. I don't know how to post a comment with attachment, so i left the modified version here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/317582/mocpages.com/1315336948m-2.lxf
Thanks for taking the time, I will have a look later on your work.

I've just found this one. That's a cool idea for this set. It looks almost like the armored jumps suits from Avatar and it works really cool. Great job! :-))

Hi, My favourite of your mocs so far, well this and your helicopter, or maybe the Porsche. hahaha they are all good ;). I like your windscreen technique - I would like to use it one day. What's next? Thanks for your kind comments :)

Quoting Rabid Goldfish Very nice in-depth design. It has a good overall feeling to it, and the bright yellow is pretty snazzy. The legs are nicely made, and the cockpit section looks so natural the way you built it. ^Blub^
Well I think the most appropriate color for a mech is grey - but after all the bright color just added to the personality of him. :)

Quoting Peter deYeule This is sooooo cool. I never though it was possible to build a decent mecha out of this set. Really creative. Keep on mocing, you are good at it.
Thanks! I thought the same about building a Snowspeeder though...:)

Quoting Andrew Mobley I really like to see someone build something that is COMPLETELY different from the kit's original design. Great job on this one!
Thanks! I guess everyone tends to like their latest MOC the most - but I am still sad I had to dismantle Chen to be able to build other alternatives. :( we got close to each other ;)

Quoting Nathanael Kuipers It was definitely not boring to read about your creative process! Regarding the curved pieces, I did a quick look at the earlier sets it came in, and can not see any indication that it was intentionally designed for this purpose. However they were used in a similar way in 5864.
Thanks for looking into it, I did not notice them in set 5864!

Quoting Nathanael Kuipers Thanks for sharing your creative process. Definitely something different than what we have seen from this set so far! I like all the features and articulation of this model.
Thanks, I hope it was not boring. Nathanael, do you have some info about these cockpit glasses? I really dig their shape but their only logical arrangement seems to be as it is on this mech, when they are rotated compared to each other. Do you think this was the original intention?
