M.O. Round 1: The Sacred Waters of Athena
Here is my entry for Round 1 of the 2011 MOColympics. I have chosen to build in the category "Water". My entry Historical and Religious uses of water, plus that real water and Lego can mix. Enjoy!
About this creation
Here's that really important Link that we need or else we get disqualified.

The Sacred Waters of Athena

"The Sacred Waters of Athena" Is an Ancient Greek shrine consisting of a bath, a fountain and a statue of the lady herself, Athena. Those who have sinned come to Athena and pray to Athena for the removal of the sins. If Athena believes you are worthy, she will release the water from the fountains, filling the pool. The sinner can then wash away their sins in the bath.

The Sacred Waters of Athena - Whole Shot

Lucious foilage can grow around the Shrine because of its endless supply of fresh water.

You may be asking yourself "Where's the water? The whole category is about water!". Well, I decided to make this a functional model. Water REALLY comes out of the chutes to fill up the pool, aswell as there being a small waterfall behind Athena. And all this happens by pouring water into a 2 stud by 2 stud hole in the top. I have created a video to demonstrate the function (just to warn you, I did spill the water when attempting to pour it in, it's not because of the poor quality model :D):

Liked that? It's a real challenge using REAL water with Lego because of all the small gaps between the bricks :D

The Sacred Waters of Athena - The Lady Herself

The Sacred Waters of Athena - Water Chutes

Those are the 4 chutes in which the water poors out.

The Sacred Waters of Athena - Front

My favourite parts are the frog statues which "Guard" the Godess.

The Sacred Waters of Athena - Back

Just to prove that I didn't use lots of tubes and paths to get the water to the chutes, here is a shot of the back. The whole water system is concealed in 2 stud wide space :)

The Sacred Waters of Athena - Top Decor

I hope you liked my entry and happy judging!

George, Great concept and presentation. I really liked the effort you put into making your idea come to life. I would have liked to have seen a little more space between the components; everything seemed like it was squished into a tiny build... maybe too many details for the size. Thank you for sharing your take on the categories. ~Dave

Quoting Nick Lanza Nice job I like the statue, but it feels like the water aspect is missing since its a building contest and theres real water. Anyways nice job.
Just because the category is "Water" it doesn't mean you don't have to HAVE water. Not every "Earth" entry will have a model of the Earth or a pile of dirt, not every "Winter" entry will have snow.... It's just the way I interpreted it :)

well just make the hole big enough to put a hose in and you could turn the hose on a little bit and it would be great but it would not recycle the water unless you bought a pool water drainer that uses nothing more than suction all you need to do ic suck water through then it will keep going

Quoting MCLegoboy ! Cool. I thought when you said it was functonal though, I thought you meant that it had a fountain pump and it recycled the water. Oh well, I'm not in MOColympics so I wouldn't know what the rules and restrictions are on what can be used. Still pretty cool though.
I originally tried to build a pump but I found it impossible due to the gaps in the bricks taking all the air away. I'd love someone to prove me wrong and build one :D
