About this creation
The engines arrive at the memorial.
DBF Chief: "...This memorial is not yet complete. Brought here on Engines 8 and 3 are the last two pieces of the memorial, the plaques. These are also important pieces of the memorial. This first plaque, brought by Engine 8 pretty much explains the memorial."
"The next one, from Engine 3, has the names of all 343 FDNY firefighters who passed engraved into the plaque. They will never be forgotten."
"...Behind me stand two pieces of steel, one from each tower of the World Trade Center. Obtaining these pieces started in 2009, when we first made plans for this memorial. It was one September night where we sat down for Battalion 1's monthly board meeting. Battalion chief Schumacher was discussing the budget to renovate station six. The money had already been set aside for the project. However, the guys at the station were content with how the building was, and didn't want it renovated. Schumacher then agreed with them on that opinion. A 9/11 poster then caught my eye, and that sparked the idea. I told them how we could use that renovation money to instead build a 9/11 memorial, and all were on board. A year and a half later we finally acquired the steel, and we began construction. As of today, the memorial is finally complete."
