hogwarts boat scene
hi this is my latest hogwarts used in a scene from the first film, I'v looked at all the film's featuring hogwarts and tried to use as a refrence for the build. I have also tried to use as many lego HP set parts as possible still got some sand green roof parts to fit in somewhere. I'v so tried to keep that lego feel which I think is important to the build. hope you like, many thanks Allan.
About this creation
<

The main entrance, there are 2 classrooms on the ground floor, and the library on the first which holds over 320 books.

I wonder about the orientation of the main hall here, if I do a rebuild on the gryffindor tower I'll be able to change it without moving everything else.

The cloister still needs a roof I'v worked out how to do it just need the bricks in the right colour. The tower that sirius black was locked up in also needs a bit more work.

The clock tower I chose to fit the pendulum in the void in front of the main door instead of inside, It has a mechanical movement that operates via a handle on the gable. nothing inside at the moment, there will be 3 floors access is from the back which is hinged on bothe sides. I'm also working on a sticker to finish the clock face.

Another veiw of the clocktower, I like the corner tower in this shot.

Main hall new window, had to have ago at this I think it turned out ok, I used the old window in the clock tower entrance. You can also just see the hospital wing behind the clocktower, and the black handle for the pendulum on the clock tower gable.

I have started an addition to the observatory tower based on the part seen the the film The Half Blood Prince. On the left you can just see some missing sand red roof, I would like to finish it off in s/red if I can find enough of them.

The boat house is the only section of rock work trully finished, the rest are WIP's waiting untill everything else is in place.

This was the first bridge I built wanting to capture it just right, I think it looks good. under the main arch you can see some unfinished rock work that sould lead up to the observatory tower.

View of both bridge and viaduct together, there are 4 in all to build the black bridge will be next. I also widened the viaduct after seeing the last film adding the torches instead of lanterns.

An ariel view of the bridges and extent of the rockwork,I want to continue with this until the landscape turns green.

ok now I know this is not the observatort tower I'll have to hove a rethink, and do some building. many thanks for the comment's as it is sometimes difficult to place the buildings from just the films.

A close up on the cloister. I will add some more detail later eg. benches, greenery, mini figs.

A hint at some of the internal design. although most of the internal structure,s are built i'v yet to start filling them with detais.

I spent a whole day getting that doorway just right.

Not a very good shot of the two towers, not much space to try and take a pic. i'll add more pics of this side later.

As requested a shot or the two tower roof design. I did have black windows fitted here but started on a louver design, should have them fitted soon.

another request the rear of the clocktower the tan windows are a temp. fix i think i'll do somemore stained glass.

rear doors open, not finished inside.

clock mechanics.

I wanted to have ago at some rendering however it's not to easy using just paint, any advice would be welcome. also that faint glow in the main hall windows is an attempt at lighting, a bit of work needed there then.

I'v added this pic to show that it's not LDD as asked by dinos4ever. I removed a couple of posters though (not suitable for younger builders) as you can see I could'nt take any pic's from the back , but I will add more when taking apart.

As you can see it's still a WIP, It's based on all the films as I'm sure your aware the castle keep evolving for instance there is no square infront of the main hall in the first film, and in the last one half the school disappear's for the battle scene on the viaduct. I'm still thinking about rebuilding gryfindor tower as I don't think its big enough, however I'll have to re-build alot of rock work too, bit of a task !!!!. the castle is 2 m x 1.4 m, has over 200 2x1x3 round top windows, lost count on the no. of bricks while building the rocks for the great hall so please don't ask!!!! I think the bcastle building is about 98% complete just some outbuildings to do. I put it together to make sure I'm happy, and make notes on any changes I want to make. there's still some rock work to do and a roof for the cloister, anyway getting ready to start on some green hills for hagrids hut, and quidich pitch. so i'll see you then. might do something smaller next though.
ps. if you want a closer look at any part let me know i'm leaving it up for a week.

This is really, really amazing I think that in the world doenst exist such a thing like your replica of hogwarts i dunno how much time, money and patience did you spend on this moc, but its realy awesome. like you said, you want to build the astronomy tower ( the correct name for the "observatory tower" ), and that really is a challenge, because its really hard to make it ( i tried already, but i didnt manage to build it :/). but,i must tell you another thing: between the 2 parts of hogwarts, there are 3 bridges, not 2: the viaduct, the stone bridge and the suspense bridge, this last one made of wood, another thing: i believe that people would appreciate more your moc if you do the entrance courtyard ( in front of the great hall) and put there 2 minifigures, harry and voldemort, figthing of course, but this is just an opinion. to finish xd( i have a lot to say ), you could make the quidditch pitch too, and put another minifigures playing into Wish you luck xd

Quoting Asmund Tranholm Amazing! it would be cool with the owlery tower from the fifth movie
built it 2 year's back just need a big hill to put it on. it is rather plain just a 8x8 round tower with steps up one side. the landscape is the biggest part of the build, i actually looked at the cost of using 1x1 studs to cover the lake about 40,000. barking.... would love to use 1x1 green cheeses for the landscape. can't even afford a decent shrink !!!!

I'm sorry if that didn't make much sense, but its difficult to explain comnsidering that we have different names for the sections. thanks - Nick

Quoting Nick Doyle Cool, I'll check it out! A while back, I had the covered bridge, and clock tower courtyard built for starters, but sadly I smashed it on accident. Where do you suggest I start with first?
I started with the great hall, but once I got into it realised that the roof on the round builds was the first major challenge I'll take some pic's and post later to give you an idea how I did them. I did'nt really have a plan untill I'd built the hall, gryffindor tower, main entrance and buildings behind leading to the 2 towers. then I drew a plan watching the film's for guidance, I would start with a plan and I found the main entrance the hardest to keep to scale. I'll keep checking your progress as I like what I'v seen so far. many thanks Allan.

Quoting Nick Doyle Also, are you building the Astronomy/Observatory Tower?
Hi Nick I'm hoping that the observatory tower is the bow fronted one to the left of the main entrance, I intend to add a tower coming out of the left side of the bow front with three arches. I must admit I have found it difficult to place this but took it from the end of the half blood prince where harry said "he'd fogotten how beautiful this place is" .I think this whole section of the castle is based on Durham cathedral, go to google maps and the sat view is a great refrence.

Wow! I can't wait to see it in more detail! I see you're doing a slight combination of the films. Using the entrance building instead of the entrance courtyard as it is from POA onwards but you've also included the viaduct bridge which I don't think is there that early on in the films. Great work! Spectacular stuff!
