A modular road for 4-wide cars to be used as a background in LDD.
About this creation
If you build a car in LDD and display it in the view mode there is no background that really works well with the cars. They always seem as if they were floating and not rolling. Especially with the desert background a car model looks more like Luke's landspeeder than a rolling car ;-)).
You could use a standard base plate to build a road, but with these you always need a trick to position the car on the road. So i build a road module of more or less the same dimensions of the road on a standard base plate.
The road module is built with two layers of plates and tiles using some 2x2 plates to get some studs to position the cars on the road. To connect the cars to the road there are used transparent 1x1 round plates filling the gap between the chassis and the road.
The road also looks fine running through the desert.
One module highlighted in LDD. You can see some 6x6 tiles in the middle. On the left you can see the modular structure using groups and sub groups in LDD.
One module highlighted in the bottom view. To connect the center stripe with the two sides I used 2x3 plates.
And this is how it looks with two cars on it. Feel free to use the LDD LXF file to build your own.

when i downloaded it the road was lego city base plates? (and how did u get that on cause i have never seen that piece?
Oops, I have picked the wrong LXF file to upload. I'll correct that this evening (Central European Time). The road plate is not available in the LEGO store, so it's not in the DESIGNbyME mode of LDD, either. You have to activate the "extended" mode of LDD to find the plate. You can find instructions how to activate "LDD extended" here: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/LEGO_Digital_Designer/Instructions_for_LDD_Extended_Palette
