About this creation
Round 2 Entry for the MOCOlympics.
Blue Bracket
Blake Baer(me) vs. Josh B

CATEGORY: "The MOC with No Name" - In the spirit of the Spaghetti Western film genre, build a scene or story inspired by the time period of the late 19th century in the American West.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We hang 'em high in North River!"
"Howdy, stranger!
Nice day, ain't it, and a whole lot better for the posse catching that outlaw. You haven't heard? We sent a posse out a couple days ago to track down Jake Sullivan, that outlaw you've probably been hearing about for the past couple o' months, and they finally caught him!"
*pauses to spit out tobacco juice "The whole towns turnin' out to see ol' Jake trussed up on the gallows. He's caused more th'n enough damage here, and we're glad to see him go. I'll tell ye, the country sure would be a lot safer if there weren't bandits like him lurking around. Well partner, I am gonna go get a whiskey in the Ol' Gold Mine Saloon. Be sure to take a stroll through the town. Godspeed, pilgrim."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I thought that would be a fun intro to set the mood for the creation. I am gonna do this about the same way as Irene. I am just gonna speak my piece and then let the bricks do the rest. I will interject once in a while but for the most part, I'll shutup because you obviously are not here to hear me speak.

The Build

This was my first time doing the wild wild west. I really enjoyed trying something new (My main reason for joining this contest) and I learned a ton. I always try to specialize in History, so this category just seemed built for me. Not my best build perhaps, but I am content with it. I was running out of time and I needed to get this up. Right so, it took approx 7 hours and about 3000 pieces perhaps. I was largely inspired by the Eurobricks spaghetti western contest and you can see tons of not-so-unique bits that came from the EB forum. Once again, I tried my hand at angling, and with a bit better results. I tried to capture the adobe feel of the architecture, but I am afraid my style is rather inconsistent. This town is set in the 19th century and I tried my best to remain in that time period without having too many anachronisms but I know there is probably 1 or 2. Also, none of the buildings are provided with interiors unfortunately. I foolishly designed the buildings to be rather weak and had to add supports on the inside so the interior was abandoned. I also spent a good bit of time on the minifigs. They are normally lacking for me, but this is the first time I've managed to produce some semi-decent figs.

Somebody had better comment on my pump!

I am so glad I remembered about my Sheriff decal. Whenever I am done with my decals, I just put them on the side of my bins so I can reuse them. So glad I did it with this one.

Jake Sullivan

I wasn't particularly happy with the Jail sign, but I needed to put something there. I suppose it fits the western, rundown look but it doesn't reflect the thought or time put into it.

The travois is an original design by me. I may include it in another creation so we can get a better look at it. Also notice the papous in the back.

The plume for a cloth was a pretty unique idea IMO. Also, the siding for the saloon was an inspired technique using inverted panels.

I had to include Mr. Eastwood somewhere. The poncho and hat are the classic styles for the mysterious "Man with no name" about whom this category was inspired.

Well gents, there she be! Hope you enjoyed it. I will probably be adding some more text a little later. Lunchtime now.
As always, thank you for visiting. A hearty good-luck to my fellow contender.
C&C welcomed and very much appreciated.

Soli Deo Gloria!
~Blake

Wow - really well done! I love the fact that you didn't make the street straight, and that you put in a number of different building styles, and that you included new techniques. I've seen a number of western mocs, but this one is totally different.

This MOC is pretty impressive, the good, the bad and the ugly. Anyone disagrees and I say 'hang 'em high!' Although, for a few dollars more, you could have bought two mules for Sister Sara! =P Sorry, I couldn't resist. But seriously, fantastic build.~H

Wow - such a wonderful moc. You have managed to cram in so many beautiful details without compromising the unity of the diorama, it really is a sight for sore eyes! I can see the inspirations from the EB contest showing in yr work, also a few welcome hints of the Fire Brigade modular as well - but you have managed to mould those elements into yr own beast. Truly a building masterclass! I look forward to yr round 3 build. :)

This is probably one oft favorite western builds, ever. That used to be Matija Grguric's builds, but this one is just a bit more lively, and has so much in such a tight package, it feel like a full town, even though it's only a few buildings.

AH! And I thought your Irene was the best entry in the MOColympics so far. Seriously do you suffer from Can't-post-an-imperfect-MOC-itis? It's just not far! :D Everthing rocks, from the fleshie figs to that awesome crook as well as the buildings. And awesome pump! I agree the "Jail" sign doesn't seem to match the perfection of th rest of the creation but it is better than anything I could do. Awesome path, and the decals really fit the MOC. PS: that 'Sheriff' Decal is peeling a bit. :) PPS, I love the 'Soli Deo Gloria' you put on every MOC. Can you speak Latin? Great job...wow this is sweet. 5 stars but it deserves more! ~Christopher

This is brilliant and will be very hard to beat imo. Yeah change the font, I've got eye strain now lol I love all the little details ESP the pump, would like a closer look at it though, and I love all the intricate details around the doors. The one thing I'm not sure about is the JAIL sign, looks a bit sketchy but I see you tried hard and it takes nothing away from how great this dio is. Good luck to you and your competitor.
