Don't drink the water...
About this creation
MocOlympics Round Two: Red Bracket... Leda Kat vs Dennis Price

In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream - What horrors lie in the deepest reaches of outer space?

"Hey Reg, check this out.."

... I think poor Reg might have a little on his plate at the moment...

I freaked out when I first saw the category and competitor I had, but found it to be a really fun challenge building outside my comfort zone.

The whole idea began with this little UFO. I was fiddling around with parts to try and get in the spacey zone and I thought it looked pretty cute... but how to make a moc around it?

The next idea was the river. A glowing green lit from underneath. Space is not my area of expertise and to try and master a whole new genre in ten days is foolish. So I chose to play to my strengths and abundance of parts. ie. light and trans pieces.

Of course this category was not called "in Space there are lots of trans pieces and lights!" I needed a monster.

So erupting from the water comes a creepy translucent insecty thing. Naturally.

Building the planet's landscape and river bruised my fingertips, so many 1x1 tiles and cheese slopes!

Thanks judges for making these games so much fun. And good luck to all players especially my competitor Dennis! That monster of yours is sweet!

As a parting note, this image is my personal favourite.

I know I'm late for the party, but I try to do my best. The many, many details, that are to discover here, make this an outstanding creation. It's nice how you take the viewer by the hand and guide him through the story by using clever camera angles. My most favourite part is the picture "... I think poor Reg might have ...". The lightening makes your already cool creature awesome enough to be a part of a real movie.

Sorry I don't read "comics", and only looked at one picture because that's how I roll. The one picture I did look at left me wondering what was going on, but I like for everything to be left to my interpretation so I feel more sophisticated. Good job on making me feel far more superior and above you for understanding your build better than you. LMAO LMAO Nope, sorry couldn't do it.....couldn't keep a straight face there. Excellent build, and great way to show that old man who's the boss! I think he prefers whips and chains (And minifig hotdogs according to some folks, but who's keeping tack of the hotdog vendors these days?)

Quoting DeTomaso Pantera What kind of lights do you use to get the effects?
Finally somebody asks how I did it! Haha, well, kind of any way. My first LifeLites kit arrived in the nick of time for this one: http://www.lifelites.com/ and I used just one light for the UFO. And just use regular desk lamps to light the scene. I'm told the more the better but I just used one in this moc, far away because it helped make the contrast between the ground and sky. The whole MOC is lying on a sheet of glass with a hole cut out of black paper and raised high over top of a desk lamp. And my old faithful hand held torch (flashlight) is used to light the monster. I will try and use the LifeLights to better effect, but at the moment I'm not used to building with them in mind.

Haha cool, i've got that set, no box or instructions though, £84 lol Most of my old helmets got trodden on or chewed by me or my brothers and are now rather deformed. You've done a brill job of mixing old with new. What kind of lights do you use to get the effects? I really struggle with lighting and it's only going to get worse with winter fast approaching :(

Quoting Dennis Price Well done, Leda! The monster's creepy and the overall mood is probably much more in line with what the judges are looking for. Excellent landscaping here -- makes me glad I went for ship interiors rather than planetside scary -- and that's probably going to be the first thing the judges are going to cite as my downfall this round. The crystaline monster is frightening, btw, and now I'll spend the rest of the day wary of glassware. Thanks for that. Great lighting, and superb fig positioning put you in the win column, but you've always been a winner in my eyes!

Great approach to the topic. Not everybody has the guts to build outside his comfort zone. Some might have build a medieval setting with a peasant looking through a telescope, looking for places where no one could hear you scream, if they were in your place. Waaaaah. Did anyone hear that...?

Sweet, Leda! A terrific presentation with the lighting effects and camera angles. But the composition and build techniques are also very nice, and the MOC works for me from all aspects. Awesome entry Leda! Playing to your strengths is always a good thing - and the lighting and use of trans. pieces is never disappointing. Quoting DeTomaso Pantera Absolutely stunning! I love all the pics, the lighting gives it a great spacey feel. You would never know you were out of your comfort zone. I also love the little UFO thingymebob it's so shiny and draws you in. The whole scene really ties together nicely. I'm sorry Dennis but if I had to choose between these two great mocs this would get my vote as it looks so spacey and creepy. Well done Leda and I know how your fingers feel, I don't want to touch another cheese slope for a while lol
Hahaha yes I can see by your moc you also have a slightly indecent obsession with those little wedges of joy... whenever I see them, in any colour, a glazed look passes over my eyes and I begin to dribble a bit... I think with our cheese slope collections combined we could cover the world!
