Alex Fojtik vs Tyler Halliwell in:
Surrealism - Create a Lego work in the style of the surrealist movement that features some element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions or non sequitur.
I was stumped by this category. I was originally going to come up with my own surrealist image, as my opponent did, but then I realized that it would be more fun and more of a challenge to myself to remake a picture. As this was something I had never done before, not being a mosaic person and whatnot, I didn't know how to go about doing this. I finally selected an image and got to work. This is the result.
I am not sure what this picture would be classified as. It is part mosaic and part sculpture.
The picture I chose is titled "Fashionable Bridge" and is a bridge made of high heeled shoes.
*Note: I chose this picture because I liked the concept. Not for other reasons.
And away we go!
Here is the full picture (Or at least most of it.)
Artsy black and white shot. "Ooooo" "Ahhhhhh"
Me with the picture. It is 25" by 40" or approximately 2' by 3'.
Before I end, I have a list of people to thank:
Most importantly, my Aunt, who went to the Lego store to get me two PAB cups of trans clear slopes for the reflection. These were then delivered by (see next)
My Grandparents when they came to my sister's game.
My girlfriend for giving me advice and encouragement during the whole building process.
Anyway, good luck to all of the rest of the contestants and especially my opponent.
As I had just said on Dave's creation, I forget sometimes that I had seen the WIP and forgot to comment on the finished item. Superb entry in a tough category mate, very well played. Loving the reflection effects. Congrats on advancing!
I am honored to get skunked by this. You have my vote, sir.
Edit: I also find it very interesting we both chose to work heavily with the beauty of symmetry and work in a more 2D than 3D style. Funny how so many entries in these odd categories gravitate to similar themes.
Wow Tyler! This is brilliant! The use of those grills on the mountain to depict shadow and texture has worked a treat. The transparent work at the bottom also has an amazing effect. I also enjoy the fact that different parts of the picture pop out at different levels. Amazing work good luck with your judges - though I don't think you'll need luck. ~Thoy
