What happens when someone not familiar with the word “Reese’s” hears the phrase “There’s No Wrong Way to eat a Rhesus.” What images would run through that person’s mind?
About this creation
This is my entry for Round 2 of the 2011 MOCOlympics. My distinguished opponent was Mr. Deus Otiosus and you can link back to the MOCOlympics Homepage here.

Our category for this round was Homophones. What happens when a construction worker confuses the words “raise” and “raze”? How is a “navel” armada different from a “naval” armada? In this category we’re after humorous builds that make use of a homonym (a pair of words that sound alike, but have different meanings). A quick Google search or a glance through a grade-school grammar guide is all the inspiration you should need. It’s up to you to decide what homonym you’d like to use and how you’d like to incorporate it into your build. Laughter is the number one priority!

With the formalities out of the way, let's move on to my actual entry.

As stated above, the task for this round was to take two words that sound alike, but are spelled differently and craft a humorous scene around the misunderstandings that could arise from these words being confused in general conversation. For my entry, I chose the words “Reese’s” (ala Reeese’s Peanut Butter Cups) and “Rhesus” (ala Rhesus Monkey) and did a play on an old advertising slogan. My concept was what images might be conjured up if someone who was familiar with the term “Rhesus” but not the term “Reese’s” heard someone say “There’s No Wrong Way to Eat a Rhesus!”

First we travel to an island somewhere in the South Pacific where the islanders are busy preparing to eat their Rhesus after a nice barbeque. There’s nothing quite like eating a Rhesus after it’s been cooked over an open fire.

The native ladies do a dance to ask the spirits to bless them with tasty Rhesus Pieces.

The chief sits watching his delectable mean being cooked to perfection.

Next, we travel to the “Evil Enchantress’ dungeon for another tasty way to prepare a Rhesus for consumption.

She’s an Evil Enchantress
She does evil dances
If you look her in the eyes
She will put you in trances
Then what will she do
She’ll mix up an evil brew
Then she’ll gobble you up
In a big tasty stew
So you better...WATCH OUT!!!

Best to watch this video while viewing this one. 

Bubble, bubble, boil, and trouble.

Finally, we travel to a local fair where all the food is deep-fried and (most importantly) on a stick. Here we have a quaint fair stand that vends the best Deep-Fried Mini-Rhesus on a Stick. Look at all the interesting characters who have turned out to get a taste of this delectable fair fare.

It's not a fair without some plushies running around causing trouble.

Even the zombies have turned out to try this tasty delicacy.

As you can see here, there really is no wrong way to eat a Rhesus. They're tasty no matter what way they are prepared.

Final Commentary:
---------------------------
I really hope you enjoyed my take on this category and got a chuckle out of these scenes. When I first got this category, I was really stumped. This certainly forced me to think "outside the box" and build a bit out of my comfort zone. Thanks to the judges for coming up with some odd ducks this year.

Please note, I do not condone the consumption of Rhesus Monkeys and no monkeys were harmed in the production of this MOC.

Best of luck to my opponent this round, Mr. Deus Otiosus.

I forgot because i was lucky enough to see these before that i hadn't commented here! Sloppy of me as these deserve praise. Luckily as an ever-hungry Brit I had heard of Reese's even though you can hardly find them over here, so the joke was not lost on me. Clever word play, very clever builds, crammed full of details. Had i mentioned before I was jealous of your collection? Yeah, i thought i had.... Well done mate.

These are some outstanding vigs for the category. Each one of them would have been enough for me, but all three together made it easy to give you my vote. I like how much efford you put into details and design, for example the semi-circle dark tan areas for the benches in the third vig.

This is hilarious!!! Really struck home with me. In HS I did a speech on Brain Food. Of course the 'catch/surprise' was that it was monkey brains. Yes... there were native cultures that ate monkey brains and they thought it gave them extra intelligence of sorts! Also, when my oldest was little, she put a toy egg on a stick and called it "egg-on-a-stick"! So, your monkey-on-a-stick brought back some old memories! Anywho, I hope you win! Although I AM concerned about what goes on in your brain... hee, hee! :)
