The category we were asked to build in was the Hyborian Age of Conan the Barbarian Fame. To my disadvantage, I had never seen, nor had time, to watch either of the two versions. So, I did a little bit of reading on the provided Wiki link, and looked some source images, mainly from the video game, and set to building!
The result follows.
Conan and Ukafa are still wanted by the king for the false crime of high treason. The king sent some of his best guards to take care of the two heroic figures by any means possible. Word spreads that they have used the Kalacio Square as a meeting place in the past, and that they had been seen meeting there by one of the king's spy's only a few days before. So, they positioned a few guards there at all times until the heroes came to meet again. As you can see by the scene below, the guards got their wish of finding them, but the battle was a different story...
Its hard building in a world you've never heard of, much less seen, but I am pretty happy with result. I knew to win over some of the judges, off 90 degree angles would be and extremely good strategy, so I put the buildings off axis to give the square a more open feel. The whole thing came out of the design of the fountain and the back wall. I know this isn't quite barbaric living, but civilizations like this have been around for a long time, so I didn't think i'd hurt.
Thanks for looking, comments are always appreciated.
Mr. Church, Well, you knew at least one judge would enjoy seeing you go off the grid, and I do. I also really like the action you've created with the minifigures. I know it doesn't matter at this point, but you earned my vote. ~Dave
Excellent work here! This is the first one where I've REALLY had a tough time making the call. Unfortunately, I'm going with John this time, for not only his excellent work, but the way his creation caused me to reflect back upon the movie. You did a wonderful job with this, though, and it was a very close call in my book.
This is an excellent build with a great aesthetic. Has a nice contrast between the peaceful surroundings and all the fighting. Unfortunately my vote is with John. Sorry, Dude, I like this one a lot. Good luck with the other judges!
AMAZING! I love the building with the barred windows and the fountain is gorgeous! The off 90 degrees angle was a good call, it gives it a opened feel to it. There is so much detail! 5/5 great job and good luck!
