Category: A Day at the Park? Basically, build a twisted playground.

Greetings! I am Death. Uh, in case you're wondering, I'm a anthromorphical represententation of an inanimate force. In other words, this is the only time you'll see me. Welcome to the Devil's Playground!

This playground is known throughout the vast Dungeon Dimension (where you are right now - watch the molten lava around your feet!) as a haven for lost souls. The Dungeon Master keeps that myth alive, though you'll see the freedom to be found here is...greatly overstated.

Visitor to the playground must scale this slippery pinnacle to attain the joys above. By the way, if you're not a lost soul, why are you here? Oh, you're related to the Dark One? Ah, I just love these little "tours" he organizes.

Another obstacle awaits thrill-seekers - a horizontal shelf, with no roof access.

Many hopefuls approach the sandbox first, but I warn them - in addition to the usual hazards - glass, cigarettes, and kitty doo - the sand gets awfully warm.

Some brave souls attempt to mount the play structure. Let's see what awaits...

"Caution: Slide may get hot." I made that sign myself.

Yeah.

"No water due to extreme drought. Management is using available resources." Another great sign!

"Out of order."

Oh, this dragon is fun. But watch the dismount. The last lucky soul to try him had an exhilarating .8 second ride to the molten rock bed.

The only danger I've ascertained from the monkey bars is painful blisters. Unless you lose your grip, of course.

"Do not jump off swings."

Let's zoom out to appreciate the total view. Nice, huh?

Here's what you saw in the thumbnail the Dragon Master probably showed you.

And here's the backside. What? Leaving already? Fine. See you soon! Ha, ha, ha...

Building notes: Okay, this was the most fun building I've had in quite some time. Thanks to the judges for designing this contest, and especially for this category. As a dad and teacher, I spend countless hours on playgrounds, thinking, looking, and wanting to build them. Although I've never visited a playground quite like this, I used a lot of inspiration from real life. I think.

My wife insists she not get credit for the final photo. Sadly, moments like this cement the fact in her mind that I cannot be trusted with the precious camera.

Quick note: This was a modular build. Keeping the section separate was a huge help in working through the intricate rockwork. No hinges were used in this project, if that means anything - the off-angle rocks are all designed that way through friction.

I need to give Terry Pratchet (the author) a bit of credit - His character Death calls himself an anthropomorphic expression or something like that. Pratchett also alludes to a "Dungeon Dimension," so I borrowed his term.

Thanks: Again, my wife came through for me. She was woken up by my 6-month old daughter saying, "Da, da, da" for the first time! and came downstairs to take my pictures. She also gave me time during the day to edit and post. I love you!

Hehe, my daughter wants one for her minifigs to play on. I think I'll change the color scheme, though. :)

Wow! This one is awesome as well! I probably like this one slightly more, although the brick-built Death figure from the other opponent is excellent.

Quoting Stuart Delahay Pratchett's Death would call himself "AN ANTHROPOMORPHIC PERSONIFICATION" if I recall correctly Wes, Though I can't recall if he speaks in caps or bold -
It's caps, and thanks for taking me to school. Using Death as a tour guide was a last-second inspiration, so I neglected the research phase there.

Pratchett's Death would call himself "AN ANTHROPOMORPHIC PERSONIFICATION" if I recall correctly Wes, Though I can't recall if he speaks in caps or bold - must dig Mort out for a read. I digress, wicked build in every sense of the word! Funny, well composed and great details. Well done on advancing!

Quoting Quad ????? Just so you know for the next round, the links are supposed to be near the top...
Thanks. I like to put them at the top and bottom, so the judges and viewers don't have to scroll so far up.

Just so you know for the next round, the links are supposed to be near the top. (I guess the judges let it slide for such an awesome build). Congratulations, and my favorite bit was the swings. :)

I appreciate the fact you believe monkeybars are appropriately dangerous on their own. This is coming from someone who smashed their face on the asphault after falling from them and bled all over the playground, much to the terror of my fellow 9 year olds. I digress. Very nice build and thanks for the memories.

"Signs, signs, everywhere are signs, blockin' up the scenery, breakin' my mind. Do this, don't do that, can't you read the signs?!" (I HAD to get that out) This is awesome, exactly what I pictured when I first saw this category! The rock-work is ultra yummy. Good luck!~H

Mr. Pitter, Yeah, you know playgrounds. As someone else who spends a lot of time on them, I was so thrilled to see you carry many of the real-world elements into your version. Excellent work, your earned my vote. ~Dave

Like I said to you opponent, you guys were really on the same wave link here. But you packed more details into your build, and the height creates more drama to the set. So you've got my vote!
