In automotive culture there is probably nothing else like the Rat Rod style. It became popular in the early to mid-twentieth century where the owners of the cars would strip off any unnecessary parts to make the cars faster. Things like radios, interior and exterior trim, and even body panels were removed…Basically, if it wasn’t needed, it was discarded.
This Lego moc is of a truck version of a rat rod. It has opening “suicide” doors, a supercharged V8 engine with open exhaust, fat tires, and a nice low raked stance.
The interior is kept simple with only what is needed: Controls, instrumentation, and seats. A little red was added in the form of the seats to add a bit of contrast to the black and grey.
The body too is composed of only necessary parts: The cab, (no roof of course:D), frame, and all of the running gear. The color is black because many rat rods of the time were simply painted with black primer…So it seemed an appropriate choice.
Overall it is a well balanced design compiled of a minimalist approach to the body and interior with great emphasis placed on high power from the large engine. It truly captures one of the most interesting phenomenon in the car world.
Absolutely love this. It looks like a Model Team set. I've set up a Rod Club page with a link to here and the other Rods on MOCpages. Leave a comment if you'd like it removed, otherwise welcome to the club! Please check out my Rat Rod too!
