A MOC I created for the HP Series Contest on MOCpages: Book Two.
About this creation
This MOC depicts a scene in Chapter 12: The Polyjuice Potion. Contest rules include: models must be 16x16, no story towers, entries can be from the books or movies, no digital models.

I decided to do a MOC of the first time Harry went to Dumbledore's office.

NOTE: I'm using yellow minifigs for the first few MOCs, because that's how the LEGO sets were made for the first 2 movies. When it switches over to flesh tone characters, I'll use those instead for the MOCs.

He cast a wary eye around the sleeping witches and wizards on the walls. Surely it couldn't hurt if he took the hat down and tried it on again? Just to see... just to make sure it HAD put him in the right House--
...
It was much too large and slipped down over his eyes, just as it had done the last time he'd put it on.

Harry stared at it and the bird looked balefully back, making its gagging noise again.... Its eyes were dull and, even as Harry watched, a couple more feathers fell out of its tail.

Harry was just thinking that all he needed was for Dumbledore's pet bird to die while he was alone in the office with it, when the bird burst into flames.

"Fawkes is a phoenix, Harry. Phoenixes burst into flame when it is time for them to die and are reborn from the ashes."

Harry looked down in time to see a tiny, wrinkled, newborn bird poke its head out of the ashes. It was quite as ugly as the old one.

A photo of the MOC without the minifigs. You can tell it's Dumbledore's office because there are some little details like the lions in the desk legs and the candy on the desk (the man's got a sweet tooth).

View from above. Also note the Sword of Gryffindor mounted on the bookcase.

Foreground pieces removed (perch and desk with chair). Shows a view of the stairs and the back part of the room.

Foreground & middle pieces removed (perch, desk with chair, and stairs with telescope). Shows the pensieve in its cabinet with a globe on top on the left, the fireplace and bookcase in the middle, and the wand holder and trunk on the left. You'll notice there is smoke coming from behind the tower where the fireplace vents out.

Left side. Close-up of the pensieve and the walls. There's a portrait of one of the former headmasters and a portrait at the top that is empty; apparently the wizard or witch is off visiting another one of his portraits (maybe it's Phineas Nigellus). There's also a dragon crest to represent the school's motto (never tickle a sleeping dragon).

Right side. You can see the revolving wand holder and trunk. There's also a star chart on the window where the telescope was aimed. There are other headmaster (headmistress?) portraits, including one that is askew (though she clearly likes it that way, because she's still smiling).

Phoenix stages.

Wow. And yes, I'll be using the HP3 set minifigs for my HP3 MOC.

Yes, that is, of course, my only critique. Nice ideas, and you took a risk, so you have no reason to be ashamed.

Thank you! :-) I was hoping using black & white would evoke a chess feel to it and help tie in the gray used on the desk & the top of the tower. However, the white & black turned out a lot bolder than expected.
Quoting Greyface ... Minifigures: 22 --- Creativity: 25 --- Build: 24 --- Real: 23 --- Total: 94 This is incredible! I'll be so sad to go back to using my Hogwarts Castle version of this scene. Great details, such as the stone lions, marvelous bookcase, and Pensieve closets, as well as a truly ingenious staircase build. The circular tiles on the SNOT floor are a bit confusing to me, they seem to clash in tone with the rest of the build, but it's not enough to take away your well deserved win, in my opinion. Good luck with the other judges!

Thanks. I have about three times as many books as shown, but most are pink. Not quite enough for a proper Hogwarts Library MOC though. I swear we're all limited mostly by what parts we have. If it were up to our imaginations alone, our MOCs would all be amazing! :-) Thanks for looking & commenting. Glad you liked the floor; I thought it was a neet effect.
Quoting Ru Corder I envy the amount of books you have! And the use of the round tiles for the floor looks very nice.
