MocOlympics Round 3 - John Moffatt vs. The Fisherman
<amusing comment>
About this creation
First things first:
The MocOlympics Home Page!
The Fisherman's entry.

My, well, our category for this round was "Go aead, make my day."

My story behind this is relatively simple. All the stories are about heroic knights going out and slaying dragons. They get the girl, the gold, and maybe the kingdom. Everyone's happy. Everyone but the dragon, that is. The following text is how Dr. Doolittle may have translated the thougts running through the dragon's head at the time she found Sir Harold the Filthy waiting outside of her cave in the East woods of Clintshire...

"What a pitiful afternoon this has been. None of the sheep are out grazing to be picked off, the cows have been driven off to market, and all the virgin princesses were snatced up by evil wizards before I could steal one for myself. I think it's time to go lay down for a whi- Good Lord, what now!? Let me guess, the villaige sent some half-wit wearing a bucket to come and 'slay' me again. Will they never learn? They only sent one guy too. Maybe he's off trying to win some daughter's hand in marriage, who knows."

"Oh yes, you have a sword, very brave of you. I'm sure it's very pointy and all that. Are you going to try to slay me or not? I have things to do with my life, hard as it may be to believe. Come on, go ahead! Make my day."

She is NOT a happy dragon.

The East woods of Clintshire

Driven from their natural habitat by human expansion, dragons would have ranked as "endangered" had such a scale existed prior to their extinction in 1939. Many were forced to live in isolated cave systems, picking off livestock as opposed to hunting woodland mammals as they had for millions of years.

Still relatively young, this female lacks the distinctive green markings that come with maturity. By that point her hydrogen glands will have fully developed, allowing her to not only dismember but char-broil any irritating humans that get in her path.

More dragon.

The rant:
Overall, I'm rather pleased with the build. It's certainly better than last year's round three. What does bother me is that I think I probably could have pulled off something a lot more interesting if I dedicated more time to it. My original idea was to go ahead and make a day in the life of Mr. Xenomurphy (including slaying dragons, stealing secret documents, and travelling through time in an outhouse), but then its was Thanksgiving, and then school, and then homework, and then bandcamp, and then oh-dear-this-needs-to-be-up-in-two-days. I guess we'll see what appens. Do you feel lucky, Fisherman?

I almost forgot where to find this, cause I always wanted to comment on it. Even though you didn't make it to round 4, this is still a neat and fine MOC. And though the dragon is the outstanding part, the little forest has the right atmosphere to present him. Now I'd love to see me stealing dragons and slaying secret documents ;o)

Sorry, John - but this is your train stop. My vote goes to The Fisherman. Don't feel too bad, though. This is an excellent MOC, and the call was a VERY close one. In the end, I liked his creation just a bit more due to the color variety that he incorporated. I think if you had thrown in some foliage color variety, and perhaps went with a different color for the dragon, the outcome might have been different. Color really can make a MOC pop, and in my humble opinion, the dominant bleys in this one held it back just a little. By the way, nice technique on the dragon. Sorry to see ya go, but thanks so much for joining in on the games, and congrats on making it so far!

You have built a fabulous looking dragon for that scale - it has so much character, especially in the face. I really can picture her saying "go ahead punk... if yr feeling lucky!" XD Best of luck with the final vote!

Mr. Moffatt, The builds, presentation, and concept are both very close on this one. In the end, my vote goes to your opponent for the humor he captured in his build. ~Dave

Quoting El Barto ! You guys both have similar takes on the quote, so it comes down to building. Your setting isn't quite as complex as The Fisherman's playground, but the dragon puts you over the top in my book! Good luck with the other judges!
Awesome! I actually noticed exactly what you said. I figured it would come down to playground against dragon.

Quoting Anders T That dragon looks mean, could be nice if the knight had a crossbow: "how many arrows did you shoot... ...one... ...or none?"
Shoot, that would have been perfect!
