True mini-fig scale Master Chief Concept
About this creation
While looking at some Halo MOCs I had a realization… in his armor Master Chief is 7 FEET TALL! In the game he towers over the Marines he fights along side, yet standard mini-figs don’t reflect this. So this is my idea of how to make a true mini-fig scale Master Chief (or any other color Spartan for that matter). Yeah I know the feet look a little blocky, but you get used to them… it’s just that we are so used to seeing mini-figs in exactly the same proportion we always do, that it takes a bit to adjust. Also, please remember this is more of a concept than a finished product. I know it could use some more detailing like black hips and decals, but the point here was to make a decent looking, easily reproduced, true mini-fig scale Master Chief.

Making the Chief the correct scale also has the beneficial effect of making weapons that he is holding look slightly smaller, helping minimize the very common oversized weapon problem that mini-figs have. My SMGs are still a bit big though but I'm happy with them.

Here are all the parts necessary to build this concept. The waist piece is a 1x2 grill tile with the center bar cut out. I really don’t like cutting or modifying pieces, and have never done so before, but this is the only way I could get it to work. The only reason I even considered it was because this is a mini-fig where modification seems more acceptable...but I still don't like it.

The four steps involved are as follows:
1. Add 1x1 plates of the appropriate color to the feet.
2. Add the modified 1x2 grill tile between the legs and torso.
3. Pull the hands out slightly to lengthen the arms.
4. Pull the head up slightly increasing the height and actually giving him a neck.
It can also be done without the armor and with a black 1x2 grill tile if you don’t have the right pieces. The armor works well though to cover up any graphics that might be on the torso.

Spartans come in many different flavors! There’s blueberry, and raspberry, and cherry, and ahh mint, and …umm salt I guess, and uhh … hmm… cooked hamburger? … and black licorice!

Another pic of the black one because I think he’s my favorite. I’m also really happy with how the trans-yellow head turned out. It really looks like a reflective gold face plate.

Where can I get that trans yellow head? |
|
|
What about vanilla for white? Or would that be an off-white color? Anyway, I really like this MOC, and agree on the opinion that LEGO bricks shouldn't be changed in any way. |

I like that you don't like modifying LEGO bricks. |
|
|
I usually don't modify legos either, but as you said, I also think this is one of the few cases where some minor modification is needed. By the way, where did you get those transparent, honey colored minifigure heads? |

I really like shot of everybody doing the CanCan with Bob bringing the scale up on stage right. This was cool when originally posted, and reamins a step ahead of most minifig modding and most Halo building in general. I think you can do the guy in dark green now as well. Mo bettah mo bettah! Attack! |

Very good very simple. Could you look at my decals? |

You should use the brickforge armor and helmet, BUT then again you don't get to use your own design. I do like how you made it tall n' stuff. |

I like the shorter ones and I think that you should not try so hard to make them so tall |

This is very good, but just 1 question. You know the plastic things that secure the bottom half to the torso, how do you keep the torso from falling off, if you know what i mean? It's quite loose when i tried to make this. |

I won't rate the Minifigure, but the concept. A nice way to scale Master Chief, I find nothing wrong with cutting pieces for Minifigures, only cutting pieces for the creation. I don't really like Halo MOCs that much but like I said, I rated the concept, which was very smart. Smart, very Good. |

This is, as I voted, very good! Nice size, not so sure about the 'customised' piece, but guess it was the only way, eh? Is that green or teal by the way?
Just a suggestion, I'm not sure how good it would look, but the astronauts from the new Mars Mission series have gold visors, if you're interested.

Very nice, but I have one problem with it.
The 1x2 grill you use, it makes the torso fall off way too easily, unless you shave it down, like I did.
Just a helpful tip |

i just finished making one (black, though my fave color spartan is white), and my only problems are : Modding parts and torso falls off of legs alot. but still, it's a really good concept. i gotta get on bricklink for a white breastplate (all i need for a white chief). actually, i think it's gray.... |

I have to admit, when I saw the first pic and realized what you were going for, I thought it would look a lot worse than it actually does. It's still a bit too skinny for the height, and the arms and legs are now disproportionately short, but it looks better than I thought it would. So yeah, good job. |

Once again you have displayed a talent for scale and accuracy. This time my only complaints are the offset hands (weak but probably a must), and the use of the chest plate. My opinion is to remove the curved part and either turn it around to give the effect of the power plant on his back, or keep it facing to same direction but add a collar and 1x1 piece on his back (like i did mine). |

This is very impressive. I like how you related the Chief's actual height compared to the marines. As for my warthog, rest assured there will be modifications to it. As you guessed, it was my first attempt at a warthog, so I still need work on it. I'm thinking on changing the turret and body frame more to make it look more like the M12. Hopefully it should turn out well. I suggest for your next moc to do a vignette of Halo or something. Maybe a diorama. That would be cool. |
