Echo Bracket Category/Quote: "Show me the money!" This is my entry for Round2 of the MIT. I went with the classic wealthy mobster theme (some inspiration from "Angels with filthy souls" i.e. the gangster show from Home Alone). I ran out of good brown bricks half way through the building process, so this creation was quite a scramble for pieces! Hope you enjoy!

Congratulation for this great creation, yet, my friend.
Sorry, but i had a lot of thing to did in this time.
For MocAthalon, do you want, partecipate with me, yet?
Maybe, a great AFOL (that you Know well) will be in our team... i can't give you his name... but if you will partecipate with us, we will be ..." The Super Team"..., but, for compete, We have to found, other, two clever TFOL.
If you know someone, give me his name...
Ps: It's not a great thing speak here.. with e-mail would be better...
Thanks for the comment Riccardo! There are a couple other friends I need to connect with first, but if they are not interested then I'd be happy to join your team. I'll try and come up with a few ideas for other TFOL. Are the teams required to have both adults and teens in them? |

Hey Ian, sorry you didn't make it into the next round. It was a very honorable battle, and I'm thankful for the challenge you posed. As for posting early messing up your chances, let me just clarify the ONLY thing I rethought about my build after you posted was my tile floor. I don't want you to think I went back and changed my entire build.....that didn't happen at all. Don't feel too bad either way, as my first MOC O I posted about as early as you did and got stomped. My build was nowhere near your caliber either. You have amazing potential, so don't let the experience hinder you. I'm looking forward to seeing more excellent builds from you in the future!
Thanks Heath! I confess I was kind of under THAT impression, so thanks for clarifying. For some reason I thought you'd completely sized up your entry after seeing mine. Your couch design for instance--in my eyes--looked similar to the techniques and coloring that I used for my armchair, probably just coincidence. That was completely me being presumptuous. My bad. Anyway, congratulations on making it to Round3 and good luck in the future competition! You were a great opponent for me, and I learned a lot in the process. MIT helped me turn out some of my stronger builds, so all that to say, thanks again for a good round! |

Sorry it wasn't enough, but I appreciate you playing and showcasing some some great building skill.~H

The competition just got tougher and everybody appreciates when builders create memorable MOCs. Both your entries are exceptional and neck-and-neck. The popularity of Ian's build confirms the MOC's superior quality. The trouble though of posting early is that the opponent gets a better chance to size up his competition. IMO, that is what just happened here. There is pressure for Heath to top Ian's and I believe he delivered just enough to sway the advantage. The size of the MOC did not matter, but I thought the action ultimately decided the vote. This was a tough call. My vote goes to your opponent.
With a builder as talented as Heath, I knew from the beginning that once he saw mine, he'd turn out a masterpiece (which he did). But thanks anyways. I'm always grateful for a comment! |

Ha! Ha! Sorry, Max is just a really good friend of mine, and I consider him a better builder then myself. |

Ian, I am impressed. This looks great, all of the detail and different techniques are sure to aid you in your battle against Heath. I am not one of your judges, but I would not nit pick the chair design, you are bound to use some of the same styles of build you have used in the past. Best of luck!
-sigh of relief-

Excellent job Ian! I especially like the whisky decanter. Very clever use of the cigar as well. I will try to get mine posted ASAP.
Thanks for the comment Heath! But just the way you phrased that makes me nervous (hehe). I guessed you might say something about the decanter... |

Looks great! One of the best entries so far in the MIT. The re-use of the chair may get you disqualified though, the rules says that no old builds are allowed.
Oh wow I never thought of that. I built this from scratch and just reused my design. I think it will be okay, it's just a small detail. And like I said I didn't have it pre-built, it was in pieces in my sorting bins when I started. Plus I changed a few pieces since Baker Street and Christmas Carol. The only place where I think it might be exactly the same is my buddy Icon (keeps fingers crossed). |

I agree with the comment below, you are definitely a master of the classic fire place scene. That slightly raised rug is sweet! And using those earling like pieces to make a pattern for it looks awesome too! Just a couple days ago a was fooling around with those same pieces and I figures out that same technique you used! Also I really like the whole mood of the moc. The small details really make it cool, such as the bottles on the table, the slightly raised rug, and the fireplace. Best of luck the judges! |

"...but my Tommy gun don't!" Blam blam blam blam! Hehehe! Never saw the gangster show, but I have seen Home Alone. Personally, I think between you, Paul Vermeesch, and Christopher Baldacci, you guys could probably out-fireplace, out-classic-apartment, and out-photograph everyone on the Pages. Hope you do well in the contest; Heath is a worthy opponent for you:)
Max Pointner would definitely be included in that group too, but any way thanks a million for the comment! And I think the gangster show was created for the Home Alone movies, so if you've seen Home Alone, you've seen the shows! |
