7964 Republic Frigate Set Review
A set review I made for my recent purchase of the "7964 Republic Frigate" set. Please comment, rate and enjoy!
About this creation

Well here is the box it arrived in. Nothing special. I find that Amazon is nearly always the cheapest place to buy my Lego from!

The box of the set. Nice design, nothing fancy though.

When you open up your box, this is what you get. 2 "1" bags, 2 "2" bags, 2 "3" bags, 1 "4" bag, 1 "5" bag and 1 "6" bag plus two instruction booklets and a sticker sheet. I suppose it's worth mentioning that for some reason, the two booklets are different sizes and one opens vertically and the other horizontally. Not sure why!

Now, these are the 4 pieces I came across that I think are new. I don't know if they are used in other sets, I certainly haven't seen them before but I may be wrong.

Here is the finished build. Nice and sturdy. Good design. Great features. Quite big too, I was a bit disappointed with the size of the Venator when it came out but this is in fact a tad bigger.

The landing feet in land mode.

And now the feet tucked away for flight. They don't fold up that neatly if I'm honest.

This is the nifty little handle which slides back down into the body and becomes part of the structure. Very well designed.

The rear hatch opens so you can seat a gunner in it. But I will get to the figures later.

Ah, a flaw in the design; When the handle is down, you can't open the side panels properly because it gets in the way.

Inside the left hand panel. Here's a crate with a pair of Binoculars in it and you can also see the three bombs which can be dropped from the ship. Again, I'll get to that in a minute.

In the other side, we have a control panel on the wall which is a sticker, a nice hologram of Palpatine and a rack for two lightsabers.

In the cockpit. There's only enough room for one person though, a bit disappointing really but the hatch is nicely done.

Now, a feature; Pull this pin out and the escape pod drops (a bit unstably) from the ship.

Inside the escape pod is room for 4 people and a gun rack. The top of the pod just slides over the handle and doesn't physically attach to the lower half.

This is a part I wasn't happy with. It's the rear part of the ship where the engines are attached. It's just a big hole, one on each side. I'd be inclined to cover it up with my own parts.

Ah, now there's a little hatch in the top into which you can place the 3 bombs I mentioned earlier.

You then pull this pin out. Oh and those cannons are actually a really nice design!

And the bombs drop out of the bottom. This feature isn't really explained very well in the booklet so I didn't know it was there for a while!

These are the spare parts you are left over with when you've finished the build. Well, actually the new clip in the top right and the grill in the centre were just parts I had missed and actually have a place but the rest are spares.

Oh, here's the strange booklet designs I mentioned earlier.

The nice little hologram piece of Darth Sidious. Not sure why it's on this ship though with Yoda talking to him but never mind.

Here are the 5 frankly awesome figures that the set comes with!

Eeth Koth. Great face, really cool headpiece and a nice torso too. Brilliant figure.

Quinlan Vos. Great face, basic headpiece but again, a nice new torso.

Clone Commander Wolffe. A great new clone. Awesome helmet design and the legs too.

His head is also great! A new version of the basic clone face, he has a white eye with a huge scar running through it. Great for using on battle-damaged clones.

Wolfepack Clone Trooper. Again, great helmet and leg patterns. Normal face on this one.

I didn't do a review for Yoda because he's not a new figure. And yes, both Yoda's head and Eeth Koth's headpiece are rubber. Am I the only one who doesn't really like LEGO cheating and using rubber? Anyway...

Build:9/10
Figures:10/10
Pieces:8/10
Playability Factor:9/10
Value For Money:7/10
Overall:8.6/10

Review:
A nice set with a great design. Lots of interesting features that makes for great set play. Brilliant new figures but I reckon it's a bit expensive for what it is. But overall it's a very good set. I'd give it 4.2 out of 5 stars.
