A quest for justice, an Elven assassin, and an ancient keep in the wilderness...
About this creation
In the north west of Wolfgard, where the mountains are less steep and the winters less savage, the Dartwood forests have grown wild and unkept for centuries. Deep in the vast, ancient wilderness many old ruins (although not as old as the trees) stand forgotten, and most have become the haunt of dark and dangerous creatures over the years. One of the last standing keeps, Rune Watch is still manned by a few brave men and elves, who guard the deep woodland day and night.
Here, in the last few days of summer before autumn turns the leaves rusty and dry, a Wood Runner guides Martin Bowman to Rune Watch, where he hopes to meet someone who will help him on his quest... (note – now might be a good time to take a look at A Passage of Arms, here ( http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/275274 )
Fingol; Who goes there?
Jaeger; You know me well enough, Fingol. Keep those hounds on their leash!
Fingol; You're welcome enough here, Jaeger. But who's this you've brought with you?
Jaeger; A traveller from Varfleet, or so he says. He don't talk much.
Fingol; You're a long way into the woods here, stranger. What's your business?
Martin: I'm looking for a woman.
Fingol: Heh! Aren't we all. Any woman in particular?
Martin: You know who I mean. There can't be many of them this far into the wilds. I need her help.
Fingol: Well, she's here, right enough. We're glad to have her most of the time. She's a great help out on the hunt. It's when she's cooped up in the castle that she gets difficult. I'd better warn you, stranger, she won't help you unless there's something in it for her.
Martin: There is. Shall we?
Fingol leads Martin into the Watch, where elves pace along the crumbling walls. This old tower may be falling to disrepair, but it still has a feel of home to these men – and one woman...
Martin: Are you Bettany Eyrie?
Bettany: Maybe. Depends why you're asking.
Martin: I'm asking because you have a reputation for being the fastest blade in the North. Also, because you're exiled here for killing a man. That true?
Bettany: No. That's not true. But it might be if you suggest it again.
Martin: Well, I can see they weren't wrong about being fast. I want you to come with me.
Bettany: And who are you? Why would I do that?
Martin: You can call me Bowman. And I'm offering you a chance to earn some respect, if you'll follow me.
Bettany: Follow you where?
Martin: For starters, to Cairn's Edge – we're going to need some help.
This is one of those MOCs that comes together without really meaning to – I was bored, started drawing, and decided 'ooh, I could build that...'
Anyway it gave me chance to try the curved-wall technique, which I've been meaning to do for ages. It's small, but I think if I'd made it bigger it wouldn't be quite the same, so I sneaked a few rooms inside to give it a playset feel. Lost my chalk so no background this time :(
