Progress journal for the creation of General Grievous' command ship, the Invisible Hand.
About this creation
The idea with this page is to keep something of a journal for the construction of my first large scale MOC, General Grievous' Invisible Hand.
Looking at others' creations, I often find myself wondering how long it took, how difficult it might have actually been, and the steps involved. So I thought it might be fun to post some "progress reports" as this lengthy, and expensive creation trudges along...we'll see if I survive the process! (Also, there's always the hope that it may serve as a personal reminder to me never to attempt something so ludicrisly elaborate and difficult ever again. Although I tend not to listen to myself when stirred by some creative delusion of grandure!)
So anyway, here goes a bold attempt at what may amount to nothin'. But then again, as Ferris Bueller said..."Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive!"

April 3, 2007: Aaaaaallllrighty, then...For those of you kind enough to follow the ramblings of this nothing-better-to-do-with-his-time, Brick-lovin, Lego-masochist, here's the latest. The upper front portion is basically finished now. I segmented the outer walls and attached the segments with hinge plates to allow for a curve. The curved walls were then attached to the framework with hinges and braced by the black and trasparent yellow sections.

...Here's a shot of the port side, nearly complete. I've picked it up and moved it around a bit, and so far (to my everlasting astonishment!) it's held up fairly well. Didn't even hear that oh so familiar "crunching" sound ya sometimes get from Lego's when the bricks shift in transportation. "Ug! Make-um chief MOC's-With-a-Fist heap glad!"

...a little closer, here. If you look closely, you might be able to see the subtle striping that I've included along the hull. This was achieved using grays and blays. And I've also included the photon torpedo bays. Holy crap, I'm speaking in rhyme.

...So here it is about a quarter of the way to being finished. Thanks to four home mortgages and a loan shark named Guido, I can afford some more parts. And my enthusiasm hasn't waivered yet, so there should be more. I suppose I can take the advice of a fellow MOCpages member if I run out of dough or get bored with it, though (damnit, rhyming again.)..."just light it on fire, get some quick shots, and call it the crash scene from the movie." Thanks for checkin in!

So far so good - this thing's going to be HUGE! I'll go ahead and take those pieces off your hands before you light the ship on fire, lol! And just FYI to Bax and Anker, Grievous IS spelled with an R, but also spelled with IE (not EI). |

I was very psyched when I saw the public brickshelf folder. This thing is really coming along! I think you've done a great justice to the colors and this ship as a whole. The lights look great so far. |
