My entry for Round 4 of the MOColympics. Category: Roald Dahl literature.
About this creation
With the category Roald Dahl Literature, I thought I would choose a scene with lots of options for vibrancy, and also lots of options for landscaping - as this accounts for around 80% of my Lego arsenal.
My choice (if it in not recognisable) is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is the scene where Willy Wonka first takes them into the deep underground Chocolate Room! Now I must warn there are a few discrepencies between my MOC and the details in the book - but for the most part the book did not have many of the details described - so I let my imagination run havoc :-D
Some details which I have tried to re-create are:
Peppermint Grass, Chocolate Pipes, Chocolate Waterfall (gotta be a waterfall somewhere on my MOC!), Buttercups, Oompa Loompas, Willow Tree and general all round valley like lush scenery.
Details which I could direct your attention too:
The bridge... This is to my knowledge the first Arching Curving bridge on Mocpages. It utilises the ever popular curved wall effect and combines if with a layered step technique. I have tried to include a few photos to best show off the curve.
Here is a link to my very worthy if not over-classed opponent Stormbringer
My mandatory link to the MOCOlympics Homepage

4th wall commentary: Well its been another week, and unlike rounds 2 and 3 I have not been the first to upload my entry to the pool. With the unfortunate knowledge that my competitor, Stormbringer, may not be able to post an entry due to doing some hardout favours for his RL Job, I thought it would be only appropriate that I bring forth a build which would atleast pose a moderate challenge to him - I have no doubt in my mind that he was the favourite going into R4 against me. I hope to have bought forth a build which impresses you and the judges as much as possible.
For those wondering, this build is set on 12 baseplates (same size as Return of the Ancients). I have spent around 35 hours creating it and doing the photography.
THis was a lot of fun and I hope you enjoyed the viewing as much as I enjoyed the creating. Godbless! ~Thoy

Wow, this amazes me each time I see it! I decided to do a Micro-scale version of it for a contest: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/303128
While it's not completely accurate, it represents this fairly well I think. Again, great work! |

Hey Thoy. I previously rated and commented in depth here a while ago and see that those are absent. Has my comment been deleted, or is this another system bug?
Hey Tom, I don't delete comments unless someone spams me so I'd say it was a bug. It annoys me when that happens, I had to try 8 times before my comment showed up on Kelso's 'Frame Job' Moc... |

Thanks Quad, that blog is really well written, simple but still informative. I do think Pirates Remorse was not the best example from my work for the tile technique, I would have gone for Magisters Pinnacle myself, though it doesn't show the gradation as clearly - which could be the reason for your choice. Anyway, thanks and its always nice to get blogged :)
Thanks! :) You had many great different MOCs with many water techniques it was hard to choose from them. I actually have not seen Magisters Pinnacle yet, I'll go check it out right now. :) |

Well done on advancing Thoy, it's a build worthy of the win even if Stormy hadn't had such bad luck. I love the bridge, the clever details in the back room, the unusual construction for the boat. Where did all those gold plates come from? The real skill here is having a wonderfully colourful build without the variety being overwhelming. Great job. |

Hey Thoy, great build and congratulations for your win! I was unable to upload anything due to a huge blackout on the east coast from an early snow storm. It's like it was destiny...
Anyway your moc is perhaps my favorite entry of this round. Ooh, such bright colors! I hope you do some serious butt-kicking for now on.
Thanks mate, hey if I win it all you will be my only opponent why can legitimately say I didn't knock you out LOL. As always I will carry the weight of my previous opponents each new round, that way they are justified and can say they were beaten by the winner. Its my aim anyway :) Still much work to be done, many a brick to attach and pull apart! Thanks again! ~Thoy |
