"They will take the hat off an Elite at two thousand yards. And they ain't cheap."
About this creation
The Sniper Rifle System 99 Anti-Matériel was used by the UNSC Army during the Fall of Reach. The rifle served anti-infantry and anti-armor roles.
Stats about the LEGO version:
- Overall Length: 63 in. (1.60m) Only slightly shorter than life size
- Time spent start to finish: 3-4 months
- Working features: Trigger, removable magazine, sliding bolt, movable safety
- Non-LEGO parts used: 4 ft long dowel rod to support the barrel, custom waterslide decals. No glue or tape!
Larger images and work-in-progress shots are on Flickr. I think it's worth checking out.
Also, for those unfamiliar with Halo: Reach, here's a reference image.

Comments from the builder:
I expected this model to take me until BrickWorld 2012 to build. Surprisingly, I took a third of the time to do it! Does that mean time for another life size weapon? We'll see. Speaking of BrickWorld 2012, I plan to display this rifle in my display at the convention in June.
Only one BrickLink order and one trip to the Chicago LEGO Store was necessary to complete this. This rifle is very heavy and awkward to hold. During the early stages of this moc, I did drop it. Oops. Also the barrel sags. I'm not sure if replacing the dowel rod inside with metal rod will be good though. It's expensive and will add a lot of weight.
It always helps with techniques and inspiration if someone else built the same thing you did before you. Thanks to Perry B. for having something to look at when I got stuck and offering actual helpful suggestions in the WIP stage ("looks nice" is NOT a helpful suggestion). There are so many other people to thank for helping me complete this moc, but they know who they are.
Thanks for viewing!

that's one sithspawn of a sniper rifle. and extremely accurate to the real thing, too. the only detail that looks a little off is the grey thing on the end (sorry I don't know my Halo enough yet to know what it's called). the barrel's a bit crooked, as you already stated, but I'm not sure how you could fix it. perhaps if you had a metal rod going clear through the gun? hmm, assuming that's possible. anyway, awesome job. it looks great. if the plastic LEGO version is that heavy, I wonder what the real gun weighs? |

First of all: This accuracy is amazing!
And second, a more theoretical suggestion for the barrel support: Have you tried a tube, yet?. I've learned that a tube is much more resilient than a rod.
My suggestion is to use a metal tube (but I don't exactly know where to get one, that serves your needs perfectly). Since it would be hollow the weight problem shouldn't increase to much. |

Well, incredible job again with another masterwork, but I see you would like any and all constructive suggestions, so...
I would have to disagree with replacing the dowel in the barrel for a metal rod, as it will, as you say, add more weight and could snap the barrel at the base. I'd suggest modifying the main body of the rifle and get a larger dowel so the dowel extends the entire length of the rifle, stock to flash suppressor. It should do wonders for stability and it will probably get rid of the sag in the barrel that can be seen in the pictures. |

good, but the barrel looks... for lack of better word, droopy. maybe you could have fashioned a long dowel or supporting rod to keep the barrel straight.
Maybe you should think about a version 1.1. |

Ok, just replying back, so... the side-on-view sloping is there on the 'real' thing, but I was talking about the top view of the muzzle brake at the time. I could have sworn it looked like it was sloping inwards, but that may just be the camera angles. Either way, sorry I agitated you, just don't kill me with that thing please. |

As I said before, SICK! People just don't realize how big these guns are until somebody builds them life-size, or at least close to it. And if you're seriously thinking about building a Covenant weapon, I think either a plasma repeater or a focus rifle would cool. Nobody has built either one life-sized yet! |

Now, the only thing that NEEDS to change is the muzzle brake! It should be consistent in size, not gradually decreasing as you have it!! Other than that, brilliant job!!
Sorry, but it does not NEED to change. There's a slight slope to the muzzle brake:

This is a superb model! I watched it unfold on Flickr and marveled at your patience in building it! It looks like it came directly from the game! Maybe instead of a rod, you could try piping of some sort? It would be a lot lighter, and would solve the problem just as well, I think (but I'm no engineer, so don't take my word for it!). Do the SPNKr or the Grenade Launcher next! Just imagine the challenge. . . |
