I really, really wish I did not delete the old 4-wide of Engine 2. That was a sight to see. Talk about long and narrow! The main picture is the New Arrow XT after being delivered. There have been some minor modifications to this truck since it was delivered. That modification is the addition of the new style windows from the Modular Hotel set, which is placed in the openings of the doors, with trans-blue windows. Anyway, we start with the humble beginnings of Engine 2. We start with Engine 2 being assembled at the factory and continue to Engine 2 today. Enjoy!
About this creation

Yes! Engine 2 and Engine 8 were the same trucks! However, Engine 2 got modified continually through its lifetime, before the standard was set in Lego Twp. Here, Engine 2 being assembled at the factory. Red train gates were at a premium. Notice, the assembler put the doors in the wrong spots. This was fixed quickly.

Engine 2 upon delivery.

The first modification. Marker lights, different light bar and bumper light and the emergence of a white trim on the nose of the truck, just below the windshield, new style deck gun, and clear headlights, from yellow..

The next mod involved removal of the marker lights and change of color of the warning lights next to the grill. The white trim was removed.

Again, the warning lights next to the grill were changed. And look! Red train gate doors! Also, note the addition of the 5" intake at the pump panel.

Completely new truck! Delivery of a Pierce Lance, with a redesigned crew cab and rollup compartment doors. Here is where the standard Pierce look began for the LTFD.

Modification here is the lengthening of the cab to match the look of a Lance cab. Add a window in the roof of the crew cab, remove the red warning light next to the pump panel and a new style pump panel. Also, the pump operator's compartment was extended to go completely down, even with the rear roll-up compartment.

Cool stuff, Bob! I think E2 is my favorite rig of yours. Not to be annoying, but I just wondered, have you taken a look at my Truck 52? It's been up on my page for a while now.
I did now. I must've missed it back then. Sorry about that. E2 is my favorite as well. I'm partial to it though, since I'm on Engine 2 in real life at the same firehouse that I modeled. : ) |

Love the Evolutions of your units. Its amazing to see how Fire Apparatus Building Technuiqes have changed over time.
Absolutely true. The techniques have changed over the years. Its fun to look back at them. I was actually thinking about making some of the old style trucks and place them next to the newer trucks. |
