Sometime ago, Jim Garrett noted that I had already built a number of the world's historical tallest buildings and challenged me build the others. With the completion of this model, I now have built 8 out of the 12 buildings that have held the title since 1900.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower was the world's tallest building upon it's completion in 1909 until the completion of the Woolworth Building in 1913. The tower is 700 feet tall and features four clock faces 26ft in diameter.

The architecture is modeled after the Campanile bell tower in Venice Italy.

A sky bridge connects the tower's East Wing to the Metropolitan Life North Building across the street.

The building originally featured a highly detailed exterior, but a renovation in the 1960's removed much of this ornamentation.

Having been to Venice, this certainly does have striking similarities to the tower in San Marco Plaza. It'll be interesting to see if you do the Singer building and Philadelphia City Hall. I like your recent back-and-forth between buildings of different eras too.
