This Sunday's (November 13, 2011) episode of FOOD NETWORK's CHALLENGE was devoted to LEGO CAKES. Four cake designers competed for a $10,000 prize for designing a cake based on one of the LEGO Themes. I had to share this show with all the MOCpagers, especially those who do not get the show either because they live out of the United States or do not have cable T.V..
The show is hosted by Clare Robinson a Food Network chef who has her own show: 5 ingredient fix, The judges are: Keegan Gerhard - the owner of D Bar Deserts and Kerry Vincent - the owner of Romantic Wedding Cakes. This week's special guest judge was: Michael McNally - LEGO Brand Relation's Director.
The contestants were: Ashlee Perkins (whose theme was ATLANTIS), Gio Morina (whose theme was NINJAGO), Jason Reaves (whose theme was LEGO CITY and he had a special reason to want to win, he wanted to use the $10,000 to help pay for his wedding - he proposed to his girlfriend upon WINNING) and Rebecca Bosque (whose theme was CASTLE).
They were surprised that 2 of the 8 hours they are given to do their creations were to be given to do LEGO Cake versions of the busts of the 3 judges and the hostess, Clare. The winner got an advantage, during the 1/2 way mark they could still work on their cake!
Ashlee won round one!
Then at the 1/2 way mark the clock was stopped and staff members brought out tables with finished LEGO models, instruction books to make the models and all the parts to make it, they had to construct it because as they finished their models they could go back to their work. Gio who has won CHALLENGE several times before had trouble with time management and so he and Rebecca with the same problem did not win!
I loved Ashlee's ATLANTIS but because she used foam core on parts of her model lost points (even though she corrected her mistake). Jason won and called his girlfriend up from the audience took out the engagement ring, knelt and proposed, of course she accepted!
I enjoyed the fact they showed the cake designers playing with LEGO sets! (Or their kids!)
Next up LEGO in a TARGET commercial.
About this creation
For one year I will honor, remember and respect the victims of 9-11. Each of my creations will have a 9-11 memorial starting off the page. I'd like to give a big handshake, hug, kiss to all the people here on MOCpages that remembered by creating WORLD TRADE CENTER buildings done in LEGO you too honor the fallen of 9-11 GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

Wow, that's awesome! The cake sculptures don't look very much like Lego, but those cake sets are pretty cool. :)
You need to remember the cake designers only had 2 hours to work on the busts! Some worked in cake while others used "rice krispy" treats! Gio's bust cracked and he had to start over - he apologized to Clare!
