Combinators 2011: Space Ninja Team Version 2 LDD
Space Ninja Team version 2
About this creation
What on Earth are the Space Ninjas?
I've been asked that question a few times across various websites and the simple answer is... I don't know. I made up the name about a week ago (late November 2011) as a catch all, power ranger like, super robot team. My original plan was for a team of robots that combine to form a bigger robot, but the mechanics at this scale are HARD! So I compromised with this Mega Zord inspired micro mecha concept.

I've since been toying with some story ideas for the Space Ninjas, many of which are blatant Power Ranger inspired fan fictions. But to date this is the gist:

2,000 years ago the combined ninja clans of Earth banished a great and powerful evil into the abyss, from which it was prophesied that it one day it would eventually escape. Fast forward to the future, approximately 500 years from now. To prepare for the return of the great evil, the ninjas infiltrated various facets of human culture, arranging for the construction of a colony/training academy to be built in secret on a newly colonised Asteroid beyond Saturn. There they have devised an entire fleet of craft capable of assuming super robot forms. Piloted by ninjas, these robots are like a scalpel cutting away evil from the galaxy, where as the regular military are more like a bazooka.

But the prophecy is about to be fulfilled and the great evil has chosen the BioBeasts of Glorm as his instruments. When they recapture the abyss, he will rise again!

After my first attempt I had a shopping list of changes I wanted to make to my micro scale combining super-robot.

Here is the update.

List of notable changes:

1. I've rearranged the colour scheme to a more normal Power Ranger like combination, so Red is now the main body not Yellow.
2. I've redesigned the main torso, mostly so that the knee joints faced forward to make more natural posing. This has resulted in a quite different looking bomber mode for the new red "zord".
3. Complete rethink on all the limbs. The legs are now more compact, much more like my original vision. The arms now have an actual elbow. Wrist articulation was sacrificed for a more compact fighter mode.

you will note that both the bomber and "mega-zord" modes can utilise the twin sword/missiles in various configurations, I've marked which I consider official and which are just experiments below.

Space Ninja Super-Robot with twin katana blades

Space Ninja Super-Robot with twin missile launchers

Space Ninja Super-Robot basic combined mode

Space Ninja Flier Green, Fighter mode

Space Ninja Flier White, Fighter mode

Space Ninja Flier Yellow, Fighter mode

Space Ninja Flier Blue, Fighter mode

Space Ninja Super-Robot, Gerwalk mode (unofficial)

EDIT!

Introducing the sixth GOLD flier, for when the team needs extra POWER!

Space Ninja Hyper-Robot mode

Just a very rough idea for a hyper-mode. My original idea was for a 5 piece upgrade that would link to each arm, leg and hook onto the chest. But I didn't like the prototype at all. This one is ok, but the chest part didn't turn out as I wanted, and I'm less than happy with the flier / fighter mode. It's a nice little futuristic VTOL craft, but isn't really what I was aiming for. Back to the drawing board.

Quoting Mark Kelso Nice, Andros! Love the color blocking - somewhat unique to isolate the colors as you have, but it works.
thanks, inspiration (as I mentioned before) is taken from power ranger shows, and it is quite common to have that colour blocking as each pilot (and their vessel) are colour coded.

Quoting Chris Roach cool! - this would sure look awesome built in the brick!
now there is the rub, as they say, while I have some of the necessary bricks, I doubt I have enough of all of them to even attempt to build it. But it would be nice to have it stood on my shelf. sigh.

Quoting Rabid Goldfish Now that's an intense design. Very well made, and it looks great too. Personally, I think the golden section on the front makes it look too bulky, though. Now you just need some bad guys for the Space Ninja Team to fight. ^Blub^
yeah, I have to admit the chest part is much chunkier than I wanted. I still want to make an "upgrade", but I think I may start from scratch with a new idea. My thoughts at the moment are along the lines of a weapon combined with armour pieces to form the sixth vehicle, it then splits into 5 or 6 parts to attach to the main combined super-robot to form a ultra-robot mode. depending on how bulky the combined sixth vehicle turns out, I'm looking at it being a second bomber or even a destroyer class vehicle. As if their immediate superior joins the team for those missions where you just have to have more power. edit, I've changed the gold craft, I think the results are less bulky.
