An old style locomotive and bi-level carriage for minifigs.
About this creation

I've taken a break from Technic and tried my hand at trains.

I'm deliberately doing Lego City style, by which I mean generally 6 studs wide and designed with minifigures in mind.

So, my first build: the Electric Locomotive BD109 and Bi Level Carriage. I'm no expert on trains, this was chosen purely for the look. The model based on photos on the internet, both engine and carriage.

Enjoyed doing the roof and pantographs.

Bi-level carriage is 8 studs wide at the base to give it a more authentic shape. Designed to fit minifigs on both decks. It has a shared bogie in the middle.

Doors at each end open. Doors in the middle are fixed.

Sides open up to allow access.

Detail of the shared bogie. The connecting parts pivot on the carriage side and slide on a flat circle on the shared bogie side. They are hollow, 2 studs wide, so a minifig could theoretically squeeze through.

I was happy with the look and the operation of the shared bogie, but quite surprised with how heavy the carriage is. The engine is fitted with the modern power functions system so runs on remote control, but there's a fair bit of wheel spin around corners!

Very nice train! I am a huge fan of the shared boogie you made - definetely a nice example of how that can be achieved! I was always wandering how one could do it the best. I like the choice of colors, the rounded roof too, and the playability is perfect. Thanks for sharing! Best regards, Steffen

Awesome! THis looks beautiful! You've put a lot of details in there. This could be a Lego set straight away! I don't understand why this doesn't get any more attention.... 5 smilies! :-)

Your first train ? Really impressive... it looks great and you've made it work well. Best of all is the enhanced playability with the opening sides. Superb work!
