RXAT-00271 "Tower" Gundam
A homegrown Gundam concept of mine. A tad bit unusual, but anyone who knows me will be expecting that.
About this creation

The RXAT-00271, also known as the Tower Gundam, was a custom Gundam that never formally entered the war. Instead, this unit disappeared for a time after completion, much to the chagrin of its creators. Built alongside the Echo Mobile Suit Prototype, it features many of the same design concepts that would be used on the mass produced Echos.

This differs greatly at the addition of what appears to be eight thick 'slabs' of armor, three encasing each shoulder, and one mounted to each forearm. In addition, at first glance, the Tower Gundam does not seem to mount any weapons, as there was no beam sabre or similar weapon that was built into the design, though it is capable of using standard weapons.

Underneath each of the 'slabs' is mounted a vernier thruster, which coupled with the jumpjets on the pack, legs and feet, allow this heavily armored mobile suit a good degree of mobility.

In addition to heavier armor, the Tower Gundam is equipped with an extremely efficient shielding system. Each armor 'slab' is capable of generating a deflection shield for blocking beam and projectile weapons.

These shields can be shifted in relation to the Tower Gundam itself, merged to form a dish or a bubble, or widened to cover a small area. In bubble or area defense configuration, the Tower Gundam is unable to move, but provides adequate proction against standard weapons.

At first glance, the Tower Gundam appears to be complete unarmed. This appearance, however, hides a deadly secret. Mounted to the top of each shoulder is an energy collider, like the ones used in beam cannons. These colliders collect energy into spheres over the shoulders, using the shield projectors as containment fields.

Once the spheres have reached critical mass, being fully charged, they can be discharged as homing beams in any direction that does not interact with the Gundam itself. This allows for a massive range of fire, meaning that any target that can see the spheres is within range.

It is very important to note that it does take several moments to charge the Sphere Cannons, during which it is impossible to use the Tower Shields, leaving the Gundam vulnerable. Once firing is complete, the shields can be used once again.

After the disappearance of the Tower Gundam, it turned up a few sightings during the war, mostly in combatant zones, passing through. Its pilot is apparently very non confrontational, and will prefer to withdraw than to attack.

All efforts are being made to recover the Tower Gundam.

CREATOR'S NOTES:

Okay, so this started out as an experiment from the Echo for the shoulder equipment. After I fixed on the slabs, I decided to make it a unique mobile suit, and began making small changes to the appearance.

Since the unofficial challenge between me and Thomas Z originally called for a Gundam, I felt it was only right that I came up with one, since the Echo was a mass produced mobile suit.

Well, not much more to say, credit to Thomas Z for getting me to build this and the Echo, and for the techniques I used from his models.

Hope you guys like it!

Quoting Keith Johansen @Rabid: Yay! Although, I really have no time or room to be fiddling with new mechas. I still have Zetkaiser to finish and MASs to (re)build `-`; So much to do, so little time....
I know the feeling all too well. I've so much to do on top of other things to be done. I always stay busy.

Quoting Keith Johansen Interesting Gundam concept. I like it! But what I'd like even more is a tutorial on how to build one. I'd love to give a go at building a Gundam myself. ^^
Well, I'll scrape together a frame of sorts of what I used, and post that with my next big post, then.

Quoting LTE CEO of MMWI Supercool. I like the "slabs" of armor, though it seems like they would cut down on maneuverability.
They do. That's why the thrusters were added under each "slab", to add to manueverabilty. But keep in mind that the Tower was designed first and foremost to be a defensive unit, one that can stand there and take the punishment. Less manueverability is required.

Quoting CEO Luiz Camargo Your skill with Gundams are improving really fast. This unit is very impressive and the armor is outstanding. I'm not too fond of the color scheme though; It's not bad but it's a bit eye-confusing. Don't take me serious, colors are a question of personal taste. The energy orbs seems quite powerfull, a must have. The head is amazingly built, but looks big to this frame. All being said, It's near perfection. Keep the good job!
Thanks. The colorscheme was meant to be a bit confusing, sort of an orange/red/white camoflage feel to it. Harder to hit something vital that way, as a distance, anyway.

Quoting Thomas Z. Let me answer what I-field is: A protective device which uses a powerful I-field to deflect enemy mega particle beams. Due to its high power requirements, the I-field generator can only be installed in large mobile weapons like the MA-08 Big Zam, RX-78GP03 Dendrobium and AMA-X2 Neue Ziel. When the generator is activated, the I-field forms an invisible barrier around the mobile weapon, protecting it from incoming beam attacks. However, this barrier has no effect against solid objects like missiles and projectiles, and beam weapons can still be used at point blank range within the barrier's boundary. Btw if you want to learn more about the fictional tech in Gundam check out this: http://www.gundamofficial.com/worlds/uc/background/glossary_technology.html or if you need mechanical information search here: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/index.htm (this site has every single unit's details from every Gundam series and more, maybe you'll find a suit that you'll like the most! :P)

This is a very nice Gundam! The colors are very nice, and I see BALANCE in this units weapon system unlike in a lot of other builds from various people! I see you changed the head a bit and it turned out very nicely. Only thing it needs are a bit more posing. I bet it would look even more cooler in a typical Gundam pose! Nice work!

Quoting arik lego awesome! looks like a cross between a Gundam and one of Fortenoir's Mechs. are the spheres actually made of something, or are they composed entirely of pure energy?
It's something like a plasma ball, completely of energy needed to generate a beam. The shields do double shift as the energy containment system for the energy.
