UGM-7::Maul
After a long hiatus, we at XT are proud to (finally) introduce the next UGM-7 model: the Maul! The Maul was designed with maneuverability and air support in mind, as you will see in the following product notes.
About this creation
Name: Maul
Role: Light to medium air support
Tonnage: 9.1 (without weapons), 10.6 (with weapons)
Weapons: Gloxton HC-class shotguns, Durasteel 9-mil Spiralshot auto-cannons (back-mounted on XTpack)
Additional Equipment: Jetrax M-15.M Hellburst thrusters (shoulder mounted)

The Maul's armor is light and fits into it's role as an air support unit. Our XT engineers worked for quite a while on this, and finally managed to bring the armor weight down to nearly a ton below stock armor.

The Gloxton style shotgun has only recently surfaced. They are unique for their use of circular ammo clips, in which upwards of sixty shotgun rounds can be stored. When fired, the Gloxton will reload automatically, injecting the cartridges straight into the barrel. This has caused a slight controversy about if the Gloxton can actually be called a shotgun.

The back-mounted Spiralshot auto-cannons are also new in design, and they use standard 9-millimeter handgun rounds as ammunition. Many have found this an odd combination, (a 15-foot tall mech using handgun rounds), but our XT engineers have found a way to fire these rounds not only in mass amounts, but at speeds far greater than the bullets were designed for. When the rounds are fired, they form a loose spiral shape, from which the gun gets its namesake. In addition, both cannons can be fired seperately and at different targets, as the each have their own individual targeting system.

A close up of the Maul's chest armoring.

My Notes: I managed to tear myself away from Minecraft long enough to post this MOC, and hopefully you'll be seeing more from me in the near future. I've got two more models lined up after this one, and after that I've got a few ideas I'm thinking about developing. Also, I've got an, unusual, MOC up my sleaves, and you can expect that fairly soon after the UGM series is wrapped up. As usual, please rate and comment, and thanks for looking!

Looks good, I like how you did the head. I still have to disagree on that things like this could use sowrds. For one a gunner could pick it off from far away, I bet ranges have increased at this time. Not to mention supressive fire in the open could kill rows of mechs with swords. I like the mech though, maybe in the future you could make a gunship.

Thanks to everyone who has commented and rated so far, this is probably my fastest-growing-in-popularity MOC so far! :D You can expect the Medic model early tomorrow (12/15/11), and the Goliath model early saturday (12/17/11).

Quoting ED Eroomdivad Sweet. Though how does one provide air support with shotguns?
Lulz, it's light to medium air support, and what I meant by that was that they would support ground troops from the air, just really low to the ground.

Hmmm, I am curious about the Spiral Cannons, do the bullets simply make a spiral shape or do you have them do something Crazy like actually move in a spiral fashion? Also, Nice work on this.

That's what had thought, I just wanted to make sure you weren't saying that the bullets were moving in a spiraling fashion, but as a collective whole weere moving as a spiral shape. Good, because curving the path that a bullet takes, just sounds ridiculous. Also, I see you made Homepage, nice work.

Nice work Bio! The physics do make sense for the .9mm spiral cannon things, as hypervelocity rounds would overcompensate for their small size and pack quite a punch (though I'm assuming the're made out of titanium to handle the high speeds) But you know me I'd prefer somethin like 40mm Vulcan rounds or a big ol' 105mm cannon. The Double barrel shotguns are pretty kool too, nice addition to the series!

The bullets are fired in such a fashion that the stream of bullets looks like half of a DNA strand. I guess the way I was envisioning it was that it would have several standard 9-mil barrels along the inside of the gun, similar to a Gatling gun, but without the rotation. The resulting fire/reload scenario would produce a spiral stream of bullets.

Quoting Bryce (Brickbrycebrick) Very nice work 5/5. I like the technique you used for the cannons. So is it kind of like a railgun on how it fires the bullets?
Thanks, glad you liked it. I wouldn't say it's like a railgun in that fashion, its more of a traditional style firing mechanism.
