About this creation
The eastern fiefdom of Peregrinus, and in particuar the port city of Berigora has been of late undergoing a program of public works, under the current rule of the Peregrinus's new lord, Erudhalion Sansael. After pledging Peregrinus for the Kaliphlin guild, Lord Sansael orders the restoration and refurbishment of the ancient port garrison of Arad Dukkar, which is built into the cliff face at the entrance to Berigora harbour. It's large, flat top is the ideal location for a new watchtower and lighthouse.

The old fortress walls and battlements are repaired, and the new tower adds over double the height to the existing structure!

Lord Sansael and his personal gaurd inspect the finished watchtower, and are shown the sights by the tower's new commander, Sir Barold. Lord Sansael is well pleased. "From this day forth, i rename Arad Dukkar as The Tower of the Dawn, as it heralds a new dawn of secure trade for our fair city!"

Lighthouse duties are not for everyone, but grizzled soldier "one-eyed" Jaccus loves it. Not only has he got a wonderful head for heights, but he has keener sight out of his one good eye than most men have in both! The lighthouse is well stocked with oil, coal and kindling, and Jaccus feeds and stokes the fire with a long paddle throughout the night. Here he greets the dawn, looking forward to being relieved so he can go and have a kip.

Sir Barold's quarters at the base of the new lighthouse tower. The pressures of command certainly bring some home comforts along with it!

The garrison at Arad Dukkar is well provisioned and has ample space for storage, sleeping space, dining and an armoury.

A better view of the upstairs dining area. Downstairs to the right is the armoury, whilst there is sleeping space in the bottom of the large round tower. (Which you can't see, sorry!) Here you can also see one of the nightshift gaurds winding down with an ale before bed. ;)

And just cause they are super cute, here is one of the bunkbeds for the gaurds! They look inviting, no?
The sharper-eyed among you might have noticed a tub of shot on the battlements, but no catapults to fire them. Lord Sansael's next visit will be to the armaments workshop, where he will be lighting a fire under those lazy sods - hopefully we should have new anti-ship catapults for our battlements soon!
Thanks for looking peeps - c and c welcome as always. :)

This is defintitely my favorite Kaliphlin watchtower...this looks fantastic. Like others have said, the round towers are great. I particularly like the top tower made of plates and the desert colors.
Thanks! I really like your desert outrigger as well. :) I look forward to seeing what you come with for the embassy challenge! |

What a fortunate coincidence, I'm working on a harbour area for my medieval city and I've just began tackling the round wall technique. This is great inspiration! I love the color scheme mixing old and new. The tower is superb, the interiors are cosy and the overall aspect looks very natural, great job!
Thanks! I'm going to be tackling a harbour scene next too, so perhaps i'll be checking on you for inspiration as well! ;)

The curves are awesome! Excellent work, and the banner is excellently designed!
Thanks, glad you like it! I'm quite fond of that banner design too - for some reason i feel that the octagon makes it look a bit more nautical.

That's just awesome! Great attention to detail and lovely work on the curves and overall look of this brilliant MOC! Great work ;)
Cheers, thanks for your lovely comment! :)

Oh wow those bunks are so cute. This is stunning work Gabriel, so tall and detailed. That round tower section must have taken ages!
Thanks Leda, the whole thing was put together in about 4 days actually - it was so hard to just look at my bricks when i was recovering that it all came out in a rush once i got back into it! xD

Incredible! The rockwork is great, but the structure's phenomenal! The curved walls are excellent, and the interior's brilliant. Fantastic work!
Cheers mate! I really enjoyed putting together the different shapes for this one. Tbh, i wasn't sure where it was going after i finished the fortress walls (apart from up of course!), but i'm really pleased with how it's come out. :)

What an excellent build! The details are awesome. I'd love to see an entire fortress this way! Regards - Jay
Haha, me too! I might have to accumulate a few more bricks before i tackle that though. ;) Thanks for yr kind comment!

This is really good! I commented on your microscale peninsula thingy too by the way. And just to be clear it's not boring to build just sections of Peregrinus. I think you should do just that to make a more detailed version of all the things you envisioned. It's what I am planning to do anyways ;) (oh and by the way, I am still doing my microscale map, don't worry ;) )
Greetings, Elderon
Thanks, that's what i'm going to do. Good to hear you are going on with yr project btw! :) Sorry if i got a bit preachy, but i get hear so many artists (and we *are* brick artists, right?) moan on about how thier ideas aren't really original because they've been done before - sometimes i feel ppl confuse originality with novelty... :/

Wow, this is huge. And pretty. And pretty detailed. Well done. The round part of the upper tower is a tad too mixed up for my taste. *nit-pick*
Thanks, i'm glad you like it! I appreciate your nitpick too - i would have preferred more tan in the upper round section to lighten it up a touch, but i was getting low on my tan 1x2 plates by that stage and had to mix a lot of dark tan and light bley, which might be where the messiness comes in. (The choice of using bricks for the bottom round tower and plates for the top one was a deliberate attempt to make the tower look taller - i am quite pleased with how that came out!) |

I saw this earlier when at work and didn't comment. I really like the textures you've produced in the walls, the fact this has two different coloured walls is awesome. I would like to see you build the rest of your micro layout in minifig scale :D That would be a feat! ~Thoy
Thanks Thoy, part of the idea in my head was to go from old and dark at the water's edge to new and bright at the top of the tower - it gives it that illusion of extra height too. :) I certainly do want to make a larger scale map as well, but i reckon Peregrinus in minifig scale would be overwhelming - i don't have either the bricks or the room for that kind of craziness! My plan is just to do some dios in the areas of interest around the area: the causeway bridge, the shipyards, the valley of the centaurs, the mountain resevoir etc. Boring i know! ;)

You must have healed from surgery! WOW! I do not even know where to begin. Impressive is an understatement. Incredible details in such a massive MOC!
Thanks Shifu for your kind words. :) I am still recovering, but i've reached that happy stage where i am well enough to build but not yet well enough to do the heavier housework like vacumning and gardening... which means more bricktime for me, hooray! I'm sure that won't last long though. ;) |
