Old looks, older design. That's the way it goes in the Empire of Tarsis.
About this creation
Good morning, afternoon, or evening viewer. Look, a COP MOC, for the first time since this summer! I built this a long time ago, over Thanksgiving break, I think, but only got around to posting now. It's been a busy time for me.
This is the Kachan-Remīv 8, a transport and utility truck. The KR-8 has been used as long as anyone remembers, and is a very common sight across the Empire, and the other eight Realms too, for that matter. It is a very sturdy and reliable truck, not prone to failure. Unlike Earthmen, the Tarsins don't change anything if what they have works well enough. In fact, such things are frowned upon. In case you didn't know, Remīv means "truck" in Tarsin, and Kachan is the guild that makes almost all vehicle engines. Remember, guild doesn't mean corporation, so variations are to be expected.
Final note: I've got some GGW stuff in here, so it's not the canon you're used to. It's 720 years ahead of 23rd Century proper, or so. Times are different, so is the past.

Front.

Side. Ignore twisted tailpipe, that thing is a nuisance.

Bottom, in it's odd-number wide glory.

Classy.

This KR-8 is being used by the garrison of Bātev-ōd-Hafīz, formerly known as New Fields before the surrender of the Earthmen. Finding the planet underpopulated, the Count of Ai-Kaion sent settlers to Hafīz. Thus, their banner pays tribute to their origins.

However, when the Earthmen got it in their heads for a revolution, the Tarsins found themselves losing. During the long retreat from the Earthmen-controlled regions back to the Tarsin homeland, it was not uncommon for the 400 year old occupying force to take everything not nailed down with them for future use. The KR-8 came in handy here.

Some armies decided they need a lightweight gun platform, and strap an autocannon to the back. This example is not rudimentary as some, seeing as Kachan noticed the popularity of such improvised models and made an official version.

It carries a total of seven magazines, one in the gun, six in the rack. More can be carried, I just ran out of parts there.

Drop the sides, aim and fire. Otherwise things get uncomfortable. In theory, you could leave one up for more protection.

Firing this thing isn't comfortable because I'm a bad engineer.

Empty.

More empty. Pretty sure this is the first non-direct combat vehicle built for the Coalition. Second wheeled one, too, I'm sure.
I bet some poor soul will come along and wonder how this 30's-looking truck ended up in Space and Science Fiction>Land Craft. My answer? Deal with it.

Awesome truck. The odd numbered stud width is just mind blowing. On a different subject, is there any reason I was banned from all 23rd Century Universe groups? If it's for inactivity, I'll be on every day. If it's for lack of MOCs, the uploader is kaput, and I have 2 or 3 ready to go right now, with much more well on the way. |

I like it, I've never posted something with a turret, but if I ever do, you can be sure I'm a worse engineer than you. the truck looks pretty unique to me, but I'm neither a long-standing person in the MOC community, nor a very scrutinizing one. |

Quoting Awesome-o-saurus The Not-So-Great Are you sure it's just not the low quality of pictures? And if you're sure that's not it, please, tell me why it's meh. Personally, I would love to make the cabin the same width the whole way up, but Lego doesn't make 5-wide windscreens. So tell me, what can I do better? All of its been done before. Mud guards, grills, wheels, lights, everything. I don't see anything that makes this thing look unique other than the odd-number, which isn't all that spectacular. Its just a truck with lots of studs showing to me. Pretty much all of it is studs-going-up technique. (If its a technique at all.) I expect to get at least something like this, ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/dan_rubin/5897193036/in/set-72157627105093034/ ) but instead I see an average truck... (Average warrants a 2/5) |

Very cool truck, love the part usage. The part that also bugs me is the windshield. Perhaps to hide the obviousness of those vertical lines in it, you could add some wipers using those small control sticks, in either black or grey, on the outer studs of the hood. Only other thing that bugs me is the rear view mirrors. Perhaps a 2x1 tile would look nicer, but it may take away from the older look.
Yeah, the windshield, and whole cabin, bugs me too, but I couldn't really find a way around it. The mirrors look much older as round studs, you're right there. Gotta keep this old school. I'll see about those hood details though, unlike many MOCs, I still have this one around. |

I figured that this kind of thing would be used by colony militia. Colonies need militias, due to not just raiders and what-have-you, but large predators. Our planet has very few major predators, due to humans being the dominant species on the whole planet. But on recently colonized planets, there will likely be some enormous dinosaur-ish thing that likes to roam around. Google "Terrasque". Those'd make a good space predator. |

Very good point on the big predators. As for militia, the planetary militia, garrison, and armed forces are all the same thing, led by their local lord.
