I've finally gotten around to photographing all the little MOCs on my shelf and built a new light box to do it.
This MOC is part of a series of 'bad guys' for my Phase Lines storyline. Basically, I needed something for my Cerberus hover tank to shoot at in future projects.
I wanted to make some sort of civilian vehicle converted to military use (a 'technical') that was 'spacey.' I figured in a conflict with lots of mining operations that local equipment would be pressed into service. The Road Runner would be something along the lines of a pickup truck. Like most of my builds, the shape of one particular piece sparks the whole thing. In this case, the quarter-rounded spindled fence pieces looked like windows when turned sideways. I just built the rest of the vehicle around those. Because I've SNOT parts going every which way some parts don't exactly line up so there are a few parts under stress (of the 'fit damn you!' variety).
NERDY BACKGROUND STORY
Manufactured by Avarpro, the Cartero is a militarized civilian vehicle, or Civilian Armoured Technical (CAT), often called a ‘technical’ for short. In its civilian configuration it filled a unique niche on Jinan serving as a communication and courier vehicle. Using high speed, it shuttled personnel and equipment between points out of communication due to Jinan’s atmospheric conditions and electromagnetic interference. Acting as a courier vehicle, it was mass produced and widely used shortly after colonization of Jinan.
During the First Jinan War the Cartero was modified for military service as a quick reconnaissance vehicle and personnel carrier. Light armour shutters were added to the sides, some armour plate and glass added to the front and heavier armour to the sides of the engines. A turret with pintle mounted heavy machine gun is standard. It seats six comfortably plus the gunner, but has been known to hold ten or more.
The Cartero’s main asset is its speed. With two Rolls Royce Gryphon ram-jet engines and an excellent polarity drive, the Cartero can dash in and out of combat situations faster than most vehicles its size. The engines are the same used on the ‘Recce Rocket’ but have intake baffles for crew safety as the Cartero is an open cockpit vehicle. Users eschewing crew safety remove the baffles for extra speed at their own risk.
The Cartero is particularly favoured among bandits.
