11DEC12- Project on hold to other RL stuff happening...

Tuskano

--------------------------------------------------------

So a few hours ago (evening of Dec 25th), I decided to start a project that I have always wanted to begin since I owned the ship in the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. To build a Lego Y8 Mining Ship scaled to Lego man size. In the game, it is probably one of the most biggest ownable ships, and yet is one of the weakest due to the multiple blind spots that its 4 turrets give. Although it also has a pilot operated gun (the big long pointy thing on the portside of the "head").

Spec info can be found here on the wookieepedia site. Most of the stuff I am going off of is screenshots I had taken in the past. But as a easy side comparison, one YT-1300 would be a little more then half the length of the "head" on top. The Sorosuub Yacht, would be about the size of the "head". Or is easier cases, an A-wing can fit easily within the bridge up where all the windows are. Here are a few other size comparison photos you can check out that I had took.

Now on to the build!!

First thing's first was to get the framwork all done. So far what you can see is just the framework of the cargohold itself. The cargohold (although you can not enter it in the game) looks to be made up of three separate containers judging from the screenshots. If you wanted to think more on it, it looks almost like they connect like a train making you believe that it can pull more behind it.

To give an idea on how big... I put my latest creation inside the #3 hold. Anyways... over the first week or so I'll just focus on making a skeleton of it so I myself can get a good idea on how big I am really making this thing.

Update! As you can see, I have the front started. Along with the bottom part of the living space that is above the cargoholds.

Well now... here is the final update for the framework I have been working on for the Y8. The first two photos are of the bridge and upper portion of the ship. You can see I added the pilot at roughly where the pilot's station would be at. He will need more controls later... but he will have to wait. He has his coffee so he's cool with the waiting.

As the ship is faily big, I had to take screenshots of different areas and use Microsoft Paint to copy and paste them together in one picture.

But yep... this is the ship I am working on. With the framework done, I have a good idea how big each section is and can work on different portions of it while saving them separatly so I won't lag out LDD. I will also be working on a idea I have had for awhile that will allow the ship to land on a planet without the use of a hole and while also keeping the living quarters still in the upright position.

Ah... and I will add the LDD file for the framework as sometimes pictures do not do much justice. When I found myself zooming out too much, the pieces in the far back would dissapear.

07SEP12- First on the list is to make at least one of the cargoholds. Once that is done, all I would need to do is copy it 2 more times and I can hook them together!

Expect more to come!

Quoting Aron M. Are you still working on this? It looks like huuuge work man. Isn't the scale a bit too large?
No, not working on it at the momment. I had stopped it to work on the Reaper which I had finished. But yea, the Y8 is huge work. It's scale is 1.1 minifig size (how I usually build). When I do start it again, I might end up splitting it in sections due to the large amount of pieces and having separate Mocs. For them. Lol... nothings going on now, but with your little prod I might go and start on the cargohold I had semi started :)

Same here... it's all in my head how I want things put, just need to get it organised on LDD. As the builder, I can't wait till the finished product where I can zoom out, view it all, and say "I built that". That might be one of the greatest feelings with Legos and any creation :D

Quoting dominick zola ahh i had one of these to mine for my starship component business! i CANNOT wait
I used mine for when I wanted to have a big fighter and not bother about getting hurt for grinding against small fighters. It was also one of my most decorated structures. Was maybe one of the best ships for helping people on their last Ace pilot mission. The funny thing is for anyone whose owned one, it is suprisenly agile for its size >.<
