Fire and Water
About this creation

Thank you all for the tremendous support you have shown this series since the beginning. It means a ton. This is my eighth and final entry for the CCC, this one under "Wooden Fortress". "Fire and Water" shows Smaug's attack on the men of Laketown and his death at the hands of Bard. This was a really fun build but got rather monotonous with all those houses. I also scraped the bottom of the barrel as far as brown tiles go.

Because of the supported/elevated base, building was really tricky. I used up essentially all of my black/grey/green plates to make the base, and then covered that with tiles and buildings. This was incredibly parts dense. My entire bley/black bins having been emptied. Of course the fact that I had 2 other creations up at the time didn't help things :P

I hope you all like it. Have a blessed new year!
C&CC Welcome.
Blessings,
Blake

Fire and Water

A lot of my designs were based upon drawings found here.

I hope you all liked it. Have a blessed new year!
Soli Deo Gloria!

Epic! I have an Idea for you you could make the final battle scene of Gandalf vs the Balrog on top of the tower with the lightning ,rain , spiral steps ,(you could have Gandalf calling the lightning to power his sword and the Balrog trying to get up after being blasted away by Gandalf with all the smoke going up to the sky or the Balrog of Morgoth falling to his death on the mountain side.)

WOW! This is so good. I can't find a thing in the moc that is not excellent. Your buildings are great, the layout of the town looks really good, your minfigs look very Tolkienish, and you have done a great job on the angry Smaug. I really love the idea of dragons raiding villages. That tower burn looks great. I hope I can learn some of the techniques you have mastered. If you get the time could you check out my mocs? You are one of my favorite builders so your opinion would mean a lot.

I was just looking at my most recent moc which is nearly finished and was struck by how much I had improved .But then I came back to have another look at this and my heart sank....So I must say brilliant work but (and I know that you probably could not have done this) it would have looked so much nicer with water and a shoreline. :D ~Bourbon

You know, I swear that I commented on this back when you first posted it....But I may be going crazy too, you never know! Anyway, Blake these creations for CCC have been amazing and inspiring. It is hard to pick a favorite out of the Hobbit series you made, so I won't and I'll just enjoy them all! I must say that the angles, the lived in feel and the variety of style in this one is absolutely great.
  January 24, 2012
You have been selected to judge in the Batlle of the master and the apprentice. The builds are up, it's time to score it! (judging criteria is written in the group rules)... Also, I noticed your comment on Thoy's W.I.P. I was sure that sayign that if something is too cluttered, I don't have to add that it should be less cluttered, do I? The "too" kind of says it already. Thanks for the hate though!

Though you said the wooden building were monotonous to build, I can assure you that they certainly do not look it. Each building shows the care and attention to details that you put in them. Wow, simply breathtaking, Blake. The rooftops are so fascinating! Wonderful watch tower, and the great effects with the fire. I think the Dragon's head is a bit lacking though I do like the body. Spot on work here, Blake. The CCC certainly has got a winner in my sight. Seriously this is amazing. What size is the baseplate, if you even used one. I can't get one the roof. It's simply amazing. The little guards on the wall are great, and I love the chickens. Total win for you, Blake. I do think you should win. Think about it. With all of these awesome entrys?! It's totally great! I must say, you've really outdone yourself this time! Over the last couple of months I've been amazed by your CCC creations, and this is no exception. I wish you luck in the contest, and I'd be surprised if you didn't get the prize for the six best scores combined. The speed at which you build these is awe-inspiring, and the detail in each makes it all the more unbelievable. You seem to have saved the best for last, and the fact that you did this in a mere couple of weeks or less is mind-blowing. Now, onto this masterpiece... At first glance, I notice how wooden this looks. Your amount of log pieces is impressive, and you use them well. My lastest creation looks upon this and weeps. Other things that jump out are the incredible number of angles, and the massive flames. I also like how the fortress is on stilts, it's a great base. The whole thing when viwed from the exterior is just beautiful, as is the interior. The other side is even better, with the bay and boats. I like how you gave a bridged portion, and it's cutaway. This adds variety and makes it seem even larger than its already considerable bulk. The boats are excellent, you've put the Ewok glider wings to great use, and I like how one boat is tied to a aquatic hitching post. I'm sure there's a better word for that, but unfortunately I don't know it. I like how many of the roofs are different, and the one built with circular tiles is truly phenomenal. How you came up with that technique is unimaginable, and it works wonders in this build. I also really like the textured tan roofs, it's a great approximation of hay. You must have spent a long time on each building, and I like the varied brickwork, window embellishments, miscellaneous decorations, and mixed colours. The dragon is good, but I think it would benefit from longer legs and a custom head. Still, that's a minor nitpick, and really doesn't detract from the MOC as a whole. The fire effect is just awesome, and the intensity of it is magnificent. As I'm writing this I'm also looking at your MOC in another window, so forgive me when I notice something new and get of track from what I had been writing about. That said, I just noticed another brilliant roof design. The dark grey roof made from tall sloped bricks flipped on their side is a clever idea, and it looks great. I like how many of the buildings have stairways and porches, and it adds even more visual appeal to this incredible spectacle. The building with the dark brown roof looks awesome, all the variegated textures and colours make it stand out. It's also cool that it gets wider in the upper half. Nice work with the minifig with the black bow, it's a great pose. Unfortunately I forget his name because it's been so long since I've read the book. All the bins and foodstuffs add even more texture to the terrain, and makes this seem like a genuine town. There are plenty of other details I'm sure I missed, and I hope I haven't bored you to death with this comment. Good luck in the CCC, and Happy New Years!

Thanks Barto! Actually, that's what I normally do. Having learned far too many times about the blasted MFS, I started to use it. Today, the main problem was that I converted all the pics to HTML, then pasted them to Notepad++, I just forgot to paste in the intro sentences :/ No worries though.
