During World War Two, there was an elite group of skiers and rock climbers called: The Tenth Mtn. Division. They fought in Alaska in 1942 to help defend the Aleutian Islands.They helped with the capture of a Mountain in Italy that allowed U.S. troops to advance forward and continue liberating Italy. I got the inspiration for this fig from the cover of the book, Phantoms in the Snow.

American, actually. Although, since the French lived in the Alps (some did) I can picture it in my head
