This is an alternate I did for the Rotor Rescue creator set. It is a custom, pre WWII sea plane fighter. This was quite a challenge to build as the set didn’t come with that many useful pieces.
About this creation
History lesson:
The Wave-Riper 909 was produced to meet the need for CAP and reconnaissance craft that could be launched from battleships. It was drafted in 1934 and the first test flight was less then a year later. By 1935 it was in full production. The plane is fast, very heavily armed, and its small size makes it both maneuverable and easy to store aboard a battle ship. In the effort to reduce weight the plane has light armor, with the exception being around the pilot and fuel tanks, and has an open canopy. It has limited range, though is heavily armed with two 20mm cannons in the wings and a third in the nose. The plane excels at air to air combat and, though it is a seaplane, can even take on ground based fighters. It is capable of carrying 4 rockets though it is very ineffective as a ground attack plane due to its limited payload.
About the build:
I got this set for Christmas and built the Helicopter. I got board with that so I took it apart and tried to build something else using just the parts from that set. I first attempted at a GR-1 Tornado, but after building just the back when I realized I was quickly running out of parts. I finished the plane; it wasn’t pretty. I took that one apart and made a new one, this one. It took me an hour or two to put together; many parts were hard such as the guns on the wings and especially the SNOT tailfin. It isn’t quite Minifig scale, unfortunately, it’s close, but about 2 studs too short.

I used the zip line/winch the set came with as a joystick.
The gun design:
This is the only way I could attach them, it’s a little fragile, but it sure looks awesome!
The SNOT tailfin:
This was the hardest part, I had to make it this way because the set had a lack of roof slopes.
Final thoughts:
I actually plan on keeping this one together; I might even try and make a Minifigure scale one at some point. But unless you just want the chopper, or a real challenge for an alternate build, never buy this set, it just has so little to work with.

One of the best alternate I've seen built with this set. I agree with you , it is not an easy set to work with but you did a pretty good job. The description of the plane is also really interesting. I'm looking forward to see more alternate from you. |
