At 9:46, Jakelands Bravest were dispatched to 333 Porter Ave for a basement fire. When firefighters from Engine 6 and Truck 2 arrived on scene, they discovered heavy fire on the first floor. Hose lines were quickly stretched into the structure and an aggressive attack was made. However, A second alarm was requested as the flames raged out of control and spread to 335 Porter Ave. As firefighters inside 333 Porter Ave attempted to bring the flames under control, fire spread up the walls of the structure and all three floors were quickly engulfed in flames. All firefighters were then pulled out of the building and began attacking the fire from the exterior. Flames eventually broke through the roof and a tower ladder was needed to hit the flames from the air. Firefighters from Lego Twp, Rochelle Heights and Portage were requested to stand by in empty firehouses. A rehab unit from Legocreek was dispatched to the scene due to the freezing temperatures the firefighters faced while fighting the fire. After four hours, the fire was finally brought under control and knocked down.
