based off my tumbler, this add-on turret can be modifyed easily to fit on almost any NXT creation that has a flat top. post a comment below if you like.
About this creation
This creation came about after i had made my tumbler. i wanted to incorporate my Power Functions R/C into a turret for it...
Now, there were three problems i had when trying to do this:
ONE, that due to the single-speed nature of the PF motors, i needed to slow them down.
TWO, that i couldn't do ONE without using MASSIVE amounts of gears.
THREE, that i wanted only the firing motor on the actual turret (due to space and wires getting tangled.
I solved these by only using 2 sets of reduction gears on the horizontal movement axis, and one on the vertical movement axis. on top of this, i designed the turret so that the motors never had to change direction by using a continous movement/crank system. the third problem was easily solved by using a flexible linkage for the horizontal movement to link the base (where the motors are) to the turret.
But enough of my dull monlogue, roll on the photos!! and now video as well!!
First of all, we have the turret at its furthest travel to the left....
... And to the right.
Then we have fully down.....
..... And fully up.
Headlights (always a good thing!).
All the equipment off of the tumbler (tracked thing in the background).
The turret/base by itself (lots of cogs!)
Horizontal axis motor & flexible linkage to turret...
... And the vertical axis motor and its linkage to the turret.
The underside, showing how well it all fits together.
The firing motor (ball shooter design from nxtprograms.com)
ALL ORIGINAL DESIGN BY ME EXEPT THE BALL SHOOTER
What do you think?
NOTE: LDD file is only of the turret & the base, NOT the tumbler (this can be found on its own page) or the battery box/receiver assembly.

Cool, looks great! Maybe you could give a tank-design with "normal" Lego bricks to it, than it would be perfect!
A video showing the firing mechanism would also be nice ^^
I'll rebuild it, as it was dismatled, and i'll make some video for you. unfortunatly, i don't really have any suitable bricks for the body, so it's a no-go for me. check here again in a week or so, and i'll try to get the video up by then! thanks for the comment.
