A small walled town for Heroica. Goblins have over-run the place and It's down to our heroes to save the townsfolk from this terrible menace. I've set up the map with my typically liberal distribution of gold and potions as with younger players, it's fun for there to be plenty to collect.
About this creation
This corridor constitutes the 'front door' I suppose and can easily be connected to other Heroica base parts.
Going round to the left is a street with some forge-like buildings.
I wonder if I can work some rules that let heroes fire arrows from the top down on to monsters below?
Heroica seems to work well with 'mixed scale' layouts so for buildings, I went nano to increase the perceived scale and minimise the brickage.
I centred the town around a park to add some colour. The brown jumpers act as squares accessible from either connecting road piece.
I had to compromise on some of the colours as my brick supply in the Heroica palette is limited.
In the rules I play with, the 'Chalice of life' can be refilled if the carrier ends their turn next to a water source so I wanted some water in there.
It's a tight fit so one has to be delicate but a great place for hiding and protecting valuable potions that heroes must divert to collect.
I tried to develop the rather simple initial layout by adding small side streets, this turned into the grain store and then an entire farm.
There wasn't a farmer originally but I thought he could give advise or have a secret item depending on the type of game you play. He could always just let you stay a turn and recover some health... for a fee of course.
At the end of the tilled field is the barn, into which I have placed a strength potion. In our games, this potion lets you roll two dice and choose the best outcome (we thought the original potion took the fun out of battles)
Entirely decorative but that path behind the farmhouse leads to an interesting green potion. In our rules, this is a 'goblin potion' and lets you take control of a goblin (I'll be more specific when I get round to posting our rules). Either side of the field, the greenery can be removed and more Heroica connected.
A feature with a little elevation, this area leads to the bridge exit over the river.
The way out can easily be connected to other Heroica base plates (a little elevation required).
Heres how it all fits together. I hope you like it and thank you for paying attention this far (I probably would have hit 'back' by now) ; )
I like the buildings. I've been interested in how well cities could be done. I'm not sure if it is just the perspective, but the nano scale works well. I especially like the town center pillar. Well done!
