Lego History 101 - Lego For Girls - Friends!
Never before has a new LEGO range caused such a stir as the FRIENDS range. what started out as a video game for girls has caused a commotion in the toy world, Lego has spent nearly a BILLION Dollars on this range! The figures are of college age girls which is reflected in their anatomy and their facial features (including a nose!) and make-up! I have reviewed this range on many LEGO Blogs and Billboards. I welcome this range from an educators view point! It's the first set from any toy company that shows girls can be what they want to be. It includes an inventor, an entertainer, a dog show host, a fashion designer (which perked my curiosity since I was a theatrical costume design major at Art & Design and FIT and in the summer an airplane pilot, and a Horse Ranch owner! Girls need role models and with FRIENDS they have them. This is the first time LEGO has created a backstory of a fictional place called HEARTLAKE and has names for each of the figures Mia (the Italian girl in the group?), Olivia, Andrea the Afro Friend, Stephanie (gotta have a blond!) and Emma! There are townspeople as well the owner of the beauty shop and the waitress in the Cafe! I will be taking you in the background of this set. How this set appeared in the Lego Euro Catalogue, the sets themselves boxes and the promo shots, then on to the unique pieces to each set, a close up of Olivia's House and the humor this set has spured! And a note for MOCbuilders they have already been MOCed! The new colors are vibrant and take the pink of Paradisa miles into the future! This range, I predict, will replace Bellville and Paradisa by miles! We finally get new flowers, insects and plates and stemware as well! I am hoping the girls get boy friends!
About this creation

For one year I will honor, remember and respect the victims of 9-11. Each of my creations will have a 9-11 memorial starting off the page. I'd like to give a big handshake, hug, kiss to all the people here on MOCpages that remembered by creating WORLD TRADE CENTER buildings done in LEGO you too honor the fallen of 9-11 GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

This ad was Legos aiming building with bricks at the girl audience! It was unheard of! GIRL Architects!

This was the game that started it all!

A CD Rom version of the game: FRIENDS!

The big New Article from a trades magazine! Please note the comment: "...and leaves no room for creativity." As soon as I photograph them you'll see how I MODed Andrea's Stage and Inventor's Workshop! There is plenty of room for creativity as seen below in the MODs I presented to you!

LEGO Friends Logo, light and refreshing!

The logo with the girls themselves! I love this one it is very eye catching and trendy!

One of the two side by side comparrisons I present to you of the Friends Figures vs. the standard Mini-figures!

Lego MOC builder Catsy dissected the new figures to show us their components!

Lego Friends a new Lego Club Mini Magazine! It's shock full of HD Pictures and games and acts like a Friend's Catalogue! If you look at and study the 3D map of Heartlake you will see the summer 2012 sets I previewed for you here!

A close-up used as a Friends' banner!

The Friends site on Lego.com it is animated and interactive! Click on a girl and you'll see the sets with her in them!

A close-up of the above.

The official LINK to Friends used by Lego and Toys'r'Us and other sites!

Each Lego Friends girl is introduced in a publicity ad!

The Friends Game Poster, note the ad for Scala (another attempt to enter the girls' market by LEGO).

One of the many web sites discussing the Friends line!

The Cafe!

One of the pages from the Euro Catalogue, showing the City Park Cafe and the Tree House!
Note: in the Cafe the use of the pie in the collectible mini-figures series 5!

Another page (close-up) Stephanie's Car!

The Beauty Shop (lipstick included! a girl has to look her best!)

The Vets...

...and Olivia;s House!

Stephanie's Mini-Bakery!

And the Wadding Pool!

Andrea's Stage (Lego listened and gave us a PIANO!)

The Inventor's Workshop, incredible a girl inventor and with a remote controlled robot!
what will they think of next?

A Dog House (think I inspired it with my Malibu House Dog House?)

A rabbit hutch and Mini 4 wheel vehicle!

My personal favorite: the DESIGNER'S STUDIO! Oh how this brought me back to The High School of Art & Design and FIT! I wish there were a sewing machine!
I just may have to design it! (;))

The HEARTLAKE dog show---who will win FIRST PLACE?
(Hey even the animals have names!)

From this point on I will present the Box the set comes in followed by the promotional photo shot!

the Photo shot of set #3061 CITY PARK CAFE!

Once again the box...

... and the Photo shot of set #3065 The TREE HOUSE!

some close-ups of the interiors: BEAUTY SHOP,

CITY PARK CAFE,

THE VETS!

The back of the box of THE INVENTOR'S WORKSHOP!

The accessories that come with Stephanie's car (I added a reflective silver to the mirror)

Accessories that come with the Vets (note a pen & clipboard!)

Accessories with the Tree House!

The accessories that come with the Beauty Shop!

Pure humor no political overtones! I love it! gotta design a remote (note to self)!

A comic strip poking fun at the stereotypical use of pink with girls and the fact they have breasts! (In last nights episode of Dear Genevieve a "Make a Wish" girl had a bedroom redone and although it was first a "pink" paradise she still wanted some pink! girls like pink and guess what so do guys!)

One of the many attempts at humor! A girl classical mini figure kicks a Friend into the oven as if to say: "Get Lost! I was here FIRST!"

Toys'r'Us Promotional Poster announcing the arrival of FRIENDS!

Toys'r'Us Special Friends' Display!

A Toys'r'Us Times Square, New York City FRIENDS Promotional in which you can get a free Friends' Lemonade Stand!

You had me googling BRONIES BUT THIS WAS MY POINT...why can't the guys enjoy this range---look at the space ship and the militant figure! This set has opened up many areas of universal play value! Even the 'cartoonish" animals are a step above those in duplo! The new accessories can be used in many circumstances like the pen from the Vets! Or Stephanie's car as an inspiration to create a car that can seat 2 classic figures side by side!

I have yet to make up my mind on this line. I think I'll pick some up and let my daughter be the judge... they're targeted at her after all. ~ Chris.
