Atlas-class starfighter
The X-wing evolved
About this creation
Built: April-May 2007

I built this for the "X-wing Evolution" contest over at FBTB. As the title suggests, the goal was to build a successor for the X-wing.

The Atlas-class starfighter was designed by Koensayr Industries after the destruction of the second Death Star. Not only was it intended to eventually replace the aging X-wing fighter, but it also served as a powerful capital ship escort and tactical bomber.

Manufacturer:
Koensayr Industries

Type:
Heavy attack starfighter/bomber

Weapons:
4 laser cannons
2 heavy laser cannons
2 concussion missile launchers (10 missiles each)
1 rear-mounted laser cannon

Crew:
1 pilot/primary gunner
1 rear gunner/communications officer
1 truncated astromech droid (navigation)

The Atlas starfighter improves upon the original X-wing in nearly every way. The addition of a rear-mounted laser cannon eliminates one of the flaws of the X-wing. The ship is no longer helpless is an enemy fighter is tracking the ship closely from behind.

The additional weapons systems also make the Atlas far more versatile than the X-wing. In addition to being a formidable deep-space starfighter, the vessel can also take on the duty of capital ship escort, as well as low-altitude bomber for attacks on enemy strongholds.

I hate trans-orange, but every other color was being used. Oh well...

Hey! You got your X-wing in my ARC-170 fighter. This is simply gorgeous. Love the weaponry. Your color choices are perfect. The overall shaping of the ship is excellent, and some fine greeblage to go with it. Well done!

This thing is mean. Love the bevy of heavy weapons. That missle launcher is especially intimidating. Also your greebling and SNOT work is great too. Overall this has all the makings of a top notch build. 5 out of 5 is what I say.

Gorgeous design. I like that it has some echoes of the x-wing, but isn't just a dressed-up take on the old design. Doesn't look as fragile as the x-wing.

Very nice, it looks very mean. I like the front end the most - the little angle wing things are really neat. It is a bit remeniscent of a Star Wars ship...can't remember the name. Either way, still a great craft!
