Saint Rafael's Monastery
About this creation
Hi all! I finally got enough daylight to take decent pictures of my Moc, although it almost crashed several times on the way to the door :D This really stretched my speed building skills as I only had a month to complete it before the Brickfair. I had to build the entire monastery with a week left till the Brickfair. I would have destroyed it several times if I was not already expected to bring it. Anyhow, I would like to thank Stefan,Blake, and Kris, for advising me. They were very helpful and encouraging. Here is the description that I had on my card:

"A place of healing, Saint Rafael's Monastery is the dwelling place to the many monks whose homes where destroyed in the holy wars."

I hope you enjoyed looking, Noah
BTW what do the letters spell? :D

Quoting Magma ! I'm commenting again to ask you, want to join our MOCathalon team, if you don't have one already? Our team would consist of Me, Deus Otiosus and Acebricks if he wants. Then we have one spot left for an AFOL or one more TFOL. If you agree, respond here. Thanks!
Thanks for the invite :) Unfortunately, I'm on a team already, so I will have to pass this time.

Wow, this is far better than I imagined when I saw the photos in your other post. (And I thought it looked amazing then.) This MOC is so packed with detail it would rival most micro-scales for the sheer amount of detail per square inch. The thing that strikes me first when I see this is the beautiful water. It looks so incredibly serene, and the waterfall wouldn't look out of place in one of Mr. Kelso's MOCs. Including a second waterfall was a brilliant idea, and combined with the rounded shaping of the lake the whole thing looks completely natural. The rockwork is fantastic, and the foliage, SNOT, and caves make it look real. The staircase is well done, and must have taken a while to incorporate so perfectly into the rocks. The stained glass windows look phenomenal, but the letters seem out of place. Still, it really doesn't detract from a build like this. The shaping of the monastery is stunning, the wings on the sides and the curved part at the top are terrific touches that many builders would forgo if they only had a month. The detailing is truly excellent, especially around the roof. I also really like how you included windows in the roof, they're spectacular. I never imagined this would have an interior, and the balcony amazes me. In the last photo I also really like the stairs, and the upper area. Phenomenal work, keep it up!

Very beautiful work. The scene itself is gorgeous and the building is just fantastic. I see that you wrote four hebrew letters in the stained glass, but I can't tell what it is supposed to mean... (I'm from Israel, so if someone will understand, I will :P)

The landscape is incredible. The monastary is nearly perfect, but I'm not a fan of those stained glass windows. They would look much better with a simple design in them rather than letters. Still, this MOC has earned you a spot on My Favorite Bulders list.

It seems to me that LEGO must stand up and take note many Lego Enthusiastic Builders want churches and houses of worship. PLAYMOBIL did with it's Wedding Chapel! Your reverent interpretation of this house of worship from altar with candles and pews that flank the aisle and the "stained glass" windows is totally reverent! the landscaping is reflective of the tranquility a house of worship provides! I must remark on the expense it took you to create such a marvel! But my main compliment is you SHARED it with us, your fellow MOC builders. Too bad it couldn't have a Gregorian chant playing as we looked at your excellent photography! My Winter Chapel now looks so small compared to this marvel. But mine was done "Lego Style" and made to fit in with their Winter series! God Bless You for this model!
