The Orange Comet
My first attempt at a starfighter without wings, hope you enjoy it!
About this creation

Built for speed. And obliterating things of course...

A couple of views of the hatch and interior.

Sequence showing underside and landing gear deployment.

A few build shots of the various modules. I learned to build this sort of thing in modules after the first version imploded when I tried to build it all in one...

an amazing octagonally prismatic ship! You know you've built something with an amazing shape when spell-check doesn't like the shape! WOW, did those orange slopes come from Arctic series sets? Love the interior tiling for the crew, very thoughtful!

You've got great shapes in this build, it is really beautiful... i especially like the hatch section. The interior is also very interesting and reminds me of classic sci-fi movie set (alien, 2001 space odissey etc...) bye!

Quoting David Roberts This looks great. The studless building and octagonal shape are brilliant. I like the way that it's modular, which means you can get to the features inside. Not too grey either! I also like the display stand, something I've been trying do a good job of.
Thanks David, this was a really fun build (after the initial collapses!) Display stands are not my strong point, the one I made for my SHIP was hideous :) This one just wobbled alarmingly every time I moved it...
Quoting Sergei illich Sweet, not much of a fighter look though, maybe a presidental space yacht? or shuttle....
Cheers Sergei, more of a gunship than anything possibly. I like the idea of a presidential space yacht - will add that to my long list of planned builds I think :)

This is one of the most inspiring space ships I've found on MOCpages so far. The shape, colour scheme, really neat interior and general coherent design of the whole thing stunned me. I'll keep this in mind as a bench-mark for where I'd love to get my own building too.

Thanks all for the comments and encouragement!
Quoting Matt Mason It's an unusual design for a fighter, but I like it. I'd be more tempted to call it a gunship, but it's your choice.
Cheers! You're right, definitely more of a gunship!
Quoting Stick Zadornov I like how you can barely see the hatches or landing gear until they open up, a very unique design for a ship.
Thanks for your comment - in truth I was going for a little more ground clearance, but I'm pleased with the way it turned out :)
Quoting Romany Woodhouse That is beautiful - and such masterful techniques!
Thank you!
Quoting Sebeus I I'm amazed that you managed to give this (relative) small spaceship a full interior, that cockpit looks great, I'd love to see a view from a pilot perspective
Cheers - will see what I can do next time ;)
Quoting Anders T Absolutely stunning -and why do a starship need wings anyway.
Thanks Anders! I guess it'll be fine as long as it stays out of the atmosphere ;)

Thank you! Trust me, its not a great hobby to share when you reach for the bag of dark bley tiles you bought for your latest creation, only to find it empty - they're not titanium alloy spacecraft hull panels after all, but kitchen floor tiles apparently ;)

Quoting Ryan Scott Fantastic job. The colors re great. The amount of greebles are perfect and there is no unnecessary pieces to make it look overly complex. You found a balance that is often difficult to find in building with Lego. I admire your skills. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me on my Flying Rhino.
Cheers Ryan! Yes, sometimes its an exercise in self control not to greeble every surface ;)

Quoting Mike Johnson This is a quite a detailed design and the modular system makes it even better in my book. I must admit when I first saw it before reading the description I thought it was a microscale frigate. I think my favorite part is the folding landing gear. I always try to incorporate something like that in my birds and on a rare occasion it even works!
It is satisfying when those little features work - landing gear especially for me - it can all too easily break up the shape you're trying to achieve. Cheers for your comments!

Quoting søren johansen Really nice job. I like the color choice, orange is a bit odd for spaceships, but it works great. Creating the general shape, I see You used click-hinges, wich is great parts for those angles. Building in sections is a good way if you want to transport the ship for a show. Keep up the great building. Cheers from Denmark:-)
The first version of this collapsed half way through - I couldn't reach in to fix the interior so a valuable lesson learned. I can see why modular is good for transport too. Thanks for the comments, really looking forward to seeing your next monster ship!
