This is V3.0 of my 4-wide Audi TT Mk I (Type 8N) including photos of some earlier versions.
About this creation
As you can see on the version number this one has been tough to build for me, even more than the Porsche 911. I completely rebuilt it twice making uncount changes in between. I've already posted V2.0 in September including some pictures from V1.0, but I wasn't really satisfied with it, yet.
Version 2.0 looked too flat on the front and on the rear end. What I needed was a combination of the SNOT bumpers with the SOT headlights and taillights. I changed that and added some mudguards for V2.1:
It was still too edgy for an Audi TT, especially the top of it. So I tried some arches. This was V2.2:
Then I was quite satisfied with it but not completely, because this version only had four arches in the middle and no roof. The side windows didn't look well, either. They were placed too low in the side panels.
So I rebuilt the whole top section of the car adding a roof and a more upright windshield. I also got rid of the half stud offset of the middle part and put the side windows one plate higher. This is how it looks now, the version 3.0 of my TT:

As the TT is my car in real life I have to be on the picture, too. OK, it's not really me, it's LEGO Nils and he seems to be quite satisfied with his ride (even after shrinking it with the last (too hot) car wash) :-))
Some more pictures:

So this is V3.0 of my 4-wide LEGO Audi TT Mk I (Type 8N). Finally I am quite satisfied with it and I hope you like it, too :-))
Bonus photo #1: The real one

Bonus photo #2: The 4-wide and a 1/43 scale model.

Hmm, there is still some room for improvement... ;-))

Man!
Now I want one for myself!
I have always liked the real car, and the Lego model is nice too.
Now i want to build one! You could start with your own 4-wide and dream about the real car while looking at it :-)). The scale model from the last photo has been more or less 5 years on the shelf before I got the "big one"...

Amazingly close to the real thing given it's size. I always liked the simple style of this car. |

Quoting Joost Cumps One of the most beautiful road cars ever build. (MK2 in my humble opinion did loose that a bit)
I totally agree :-)) And to own one is a lot more affordable than a few years ago. |

Quoting DeTomaso Pantera My neighbour has that exact car in the same colour. Those wheels arn't the originals though by the looks of it? The colour is Mauritius Blue and the wheels are original Audi 17" models (Part no. 8N0.602.025.AA). They were optional for the TT and the A3.

I don't think this could be done any better Nils ;-) And I much prefer the Mk1 to the Mk2 and those wheels on the Mk2 are hideous lol Oh and I just saw your new picture (Nice car Nils). My neighbour has that exact car in the same colour. Those wheels arn't the originals though by the looks of it? |

Hey Nils, I really like your other creations and this one is not bad at all but it doesn't remind me that much on an Audi TT.
Here are some suggestions (referring to this image: http://images.tuningblogger.de/uploaded_images/KW_AudI_TT_neu_silber_2.jpg):
1.) The front is to to round. I mean look at the bottom of it on the real car. Yours is curved to the inner part. The real one is not. I think a compromise is using standard linear bricks.
2.) The grill goes much far to the bottom of the car. Yours is not tall enough.
Everything else looks fine :)
Hi Gilo, your photo is showing a TT Mk II (Type 8J), my one is a TT Mk I (Type 8N): http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Audi_tt.jpg&filetimestamp=20060415170209 I'll add a photo next to my 1/43 scale model of the 8N. |

Awww it's really cute! A little bit of a squeeze for you though lol Yeah, it's not really minifig scale ;-)) But it's not so easy to enter the real one, either. I always have to look for my head when I get inside. But once inside it fits like a glove. I always say it feels like you wear it rather than sitting in it :-))

Hi Nils. It's great seeing the evolution of the car. V3 is excellent and definitely the best of the bunch. Love the minifig too :) I am with you regarding the studs. A few studs here and there just to remind us all it is Lego. Another great job |

Really nice! I was going to build this exact car for Dan the Man's car contest, I guess you beat me to it. The shape is spot on, but is it possible that you could replace the two studs on top with a tile brick? Great car!!!! It's possible, but I won't do it. I like to have some studs here and there to show that it's LEGO :-))
