A look back at my time on Mocpages.
About this creation
I can't remember the exact date I started my Mocpages account, but I know it was sometime in January. I decided to celebrate the anniversary of my coming to Mocpages on the 26th because that is when I posted my first creation. I have enjoyed reading other peoples's recounts of their first year so I decided to do one as well.
By the time I discovered Mocpages, I had already been an online TFOL for a year. I had a brickshelf and was following the Brothers-Brick. It was on TBB that I heard about a contest on Mocpages and Flickr, the "Be My Brickentine" contest. I thought it sounded interesting and the lovely prize of an entire collectible minifig series gave me enough motivation to enter. I got a Mocpages account and began working on Skarlet, a romantic sunset scene involving the crew of a small dirigible.

This is my first and still is my most popular creation. Skarlet pioneered some techniques that I have since used often, such as using 2x2 rounds for a balloon and legs for clouds. I tried to make this as romantic as I could with golden colors and sweet characters. Neville and Captain Tore are still my favorite minifigures I have made. I am very proud of this ship and I like to think that this is an example of what happens when I sit down and revise my build until it really looks beautiful.
My second creation is the rather interesting steampowered Clocktower. I tried to incorporate a story like in Skarlet. My photography still isn't very clear.
Through the next couple months, I built a couple small steampunk vignettes such as Furnace, Engineer's Stair and my favorite, Skyhopper.

Furnace looks simple, but I spent hours trying to get the doors to fit in satisfactorily.

Skyhopper uses an irregular base which I thought looked like a landing platform.
Throughout these small vignettes I tried to build a story and work on the minifigures's characters. Through this spring-summer period, I used lots of natural lighting and my photos became clearer and brighter.
After much inactivity, I started to become more involved in Mocpages, in the fall. I followed the Moc Olympics and picked a signature minifig.

Here is my sig fig with both castle and steampunk look. I hope to get some nicer pictures of Sir up in an Official post soon.
In late fall and winter, I joined some contests, most notably being the "Out of your Comfort Zone" contest, organized by Christian Hansen, and the "Moc Speed Contest", organized by Flare. With my Pirate's Double Cross I qualified to the final round of the "Out of Your Comfort Zone" contest. My final entry for that contest is here.

I also advanced to the final round in the "Moc Speed Contest" and won.

I competed in 5 rounds Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5.

I have had a pretty slow first year, but I do have some plans for the future. I started a short steampunk series a while back about the crew of a merchant dirigible. You can see the first installment Here. I am also going to look into the Mocathalon. In short, this has been an enjoyable year and I hope to stick around Mocpages for many years to come. P.S. The main photo used to be my buddy icon when I first started if you were wondering.
