Ladder 23
The ARFF Ladder
About this creation

Today, after a few delays, the new aerial for the Airport Battalion was delivered by Pierce.

Its a 2012 Quantum with a 2000 gpm pump, a 300 gallon water tank, and 2 50 gallon foam tanks.

It has a 100' sky arm with a heavily customised bucket for its tasks on the airport.

The bucket feautures a 1000 gpm monitor, a reeled handline for small fire attacks inside a plane or in buildings without standpiping, a extendable platform to reach the doors and hard to reach places on an aircraft, air and hydraulic connections, entry tools and lighting.

The rig will be used as a multi use platform, it has all kinds of rescue tools on board, so it is the primary rescue rig in and around the airport.
And its ladder can also used as a evacuation ladder for plane passengers and crew.

This rig will be first out on all onboard airplane medicals and fires.

But for the moment it will respond to all airport calls, untill the 2 ARFF Engines are designed and delivered.

Quoting Jon D Referring back to Zak O's comment about the hose reel, why not have a discharge there? That way you can run the hose and still get good pressure. I got this idea from Beeville tower 1.
Discharge would mean they have to haul up hoses, thought this was handier. And it kinda looks cool on it, so the reel stays. Thanks for the idea though.

Quoting Zak Overmyer Looks like an overall good truck, but there are a few technical details that should be fixed. First: There is no way this truck could hold 1500 gallons of water/foam. 500 water at the most, and that is if you don't want a full compliment of ground ladders. Your best bet would to do a 250 water and 30 foam with a CAFS pump. That way you are still getting your foam, and with the CAFS that expands your water to 1500 gallons with foam mixed in. As for the booster reel on the bucket, it is a very good idea, but the pressure/GPM you will be getting out of it (approx. 60 GPM) won't do much for an aircraft fire. You would be better off just standpiping it to get the full GPM you would need.
Going to change that, thanks for the advice. But the bucket hose is for small fires and hotspots, if the fire is getting worse, the upcoming Strikers will take care of that with the HRET's

Quoting Paul McKeever III Do you see how much the ladder bends when fully extended... WOW!!!! But other than that, I hope you will have more ARFF rigs out soon. By the way hows the tac going?
The bucket is a heavy thing, so it bends a little on full extention, but it can hold the weight. And all ARFF rigs are designed, just some tweaking and then i will buy them. TAC unit is on hold atm. it will be reviewed when the ex- wildlands are ready for their new task.
