I wanted to use parts from the crappiest Millennium Falcon kit ever put out by LEGO so I came up with this Star Wars Imperial fighter idea.
About this creation
I just liked the sandwiched Falcon panels as the main part of this ship. It was a bit of a struggle to find a simple way to put them together yet strong enough to actually play with. The cockpit can be removed from the fuselage in kind of an escape craft mode similar to some speed boats. This was just a fun quick build that I think looks kinda cool.
Of course I stole the idea for the engines from the Falcon kit. I like the idea of the Empire deciding that in order to catch the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy they should build a fighter that uses the same engines.
Showing the landing gear down. Sadly they don't actually hold the ship off the ground because it's way off balance but they're fun to play with anyway.
I wanted to leave as much room as I could inside because my kids like to cram as many minifigs as they can fit.
The rear can completely open for easier play.
Showing how the cockpit is clamped in place when the two clam shells are together.
A horribly fuzzy shot of the rear of the cockpit.
Interior view with the pilot. Apparently this fighter is running down the trench on the Death Star. I don't remember seeing that in the movie...
Quoting Wesley Kreiss
I like it a lot! And for just a quick build while making something out of "odd" and "ugly" pieces shows mega skill. It's very cool too!
Thank you Wesley! I totally agree with the 'odd' and 'ugly' description of those pieces.
